hardware problem

Thought I'd jump back in for a second. I still think we can rule out XP, W98, etc., since she tried them both on clean installs. The event viewer of WinNT was better than what I'm hearing for XP, thanks BillyG. LOL!

Now I don't feel so bad about not finding anything in the MSKB.

Lisa, when you tested with the modem did you uninstall all network bindings, protocals, etc., remove the NIC and then install the modem, install dialup netorking and try it or did you just remove the cable from the computer and leave all the protocals and hardware in place?

Just removing the cable won't eliminate the possible problem if I understand what you said earlier.

Don't do anything with them until you answer back OK?

Getting that straight may fix the other part. Just guessing, but.

Service control manager 7034, no category, user - not correct
System error 1003,category(102), user - not correct.

Also, if you are changing os's like that , you might want to run [url=http://www.russelltexas.com/delpart.htm]Delpart and wipe the bootsector and partitions then start over from scratch.

Yes, I left the protocols there. wasn´t removing.

I´ve red in the link SuperSparks given, that in some cases there are problems with the partition of the big memory, that the comp doesn´t recognize it correct or sth like this. Could this be? I have 20 Gb and 60Gb, and wasn´t trying different partitions.

What do you think about this?

unless you mean the 80GB hard drive not the memory and I didn't find that reference on the last link of SuperSparks.

It is possible however that the BIOS does not recognize larger hard drives but with your newer motherboard I doubt it. Do you remember if you had a floppy disk with something like EZ-Bios that added a routine to help the BIOS recognize large hard drives?

If you open My Computer what does it show for total size(s) of your drive partitions? If you go into the CMOS setup what does it show for the drive size?

As far as checking the machine without the high speed network the only way to do that is to completely remove all traces of it. This can be tricky because you'll have to restore the exact setup to be able to reconnect to your high speed ISP which means all protocals, settings and of course the card and from what I've seen on the board that doesn't always go real smooth.

I've never had high speed cable but I have a fairly complex home network and one time I was able to locate a problem by "disabling in this profile" all references to the different NICs and removing one protocal at a time. Maybe you could contact your ISP and ask there opinion or there recomendations for removing and setting back up.

Try partitioning your hard drive into 2 20GB or 1 30GB and 1 10GB partition.
Although your BIOS sees it as 40GB some systems have problems with drives
over 32 GB.

I know here the problem is a bit different, but could it be the same reason?

The memory block is 80Gb, separated on two partition - 30Gb and 50Gb.

Hdd:1- 29,2; Hdd:2- 45.2Gb

With the cable guys I could speak tomorrow, but I don´t think that it could be complicated, I will recieve automaticaly the password after reinstalling the network card. At least up to now it was so.

Is this all you need?

Couple of things, 1st I see you have a different motherboard than the original you listed in the beginning. Was this what the dealer replaced? This might make a difference with the power supply.

2nd, I also have a NVIDIA GeForce4 64mb and I had a problem with bootup (it would hang just prior to loading into Windows) when I used the drivers from nVidia (MS certified). I downlaoded the latest drivers from the manufacturer, in my case eVGA, and the problems disappeared. I see you're using NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Microsoft Corporation) Any chance you could go to the board manufacturer and see if they have their own driver set.

3rd, I see Realtek RTL8139-Familie-PCI-Fast Ethernet-NIC Do you have the latest drivers for that? Have you tried removing the card and all protocals yet?

We have some things in common, Athlon, g-force, realtek NIC and the chipset.

Maybe the others will see something else in the text file but I don't see anything that doesn't still point to either the network setup or the power supply.

So guys, maybe I´ll have a big chance to change the machine in two weeks, I had a big scandal with the dealer(who was so stupied not to erase my files from their statistics)and probably I win. Anyway I will insist full report what the hell was going on, and will let you know.
I will leave you for few days, because i have to go for a business trip to Czech Rep.

please make sure you do or did the followings;

make another partition on your 46GB hard drive it is too big, your mother board might not support big partitions.
install your mother board drivers properly (uninstall first, reboot,reinstall,reboot).
use your Gforce CD to install the driver for your AGP card (you are using Microsoft defult drivers as i can see), make sure you install the VIA AGP support (it is in your mother board CD), from the BIOS select the proper speed of your GForce card (4X),

If it's any consolation, I'm still on the case with this problem - I have no doubt that it's a hardware problem and I think that error 1003 message is telling us what the fault is and that it's just a matter of finding the info somewhere.
