Purrty much what I do.
Question:
Cpu is a PII 550 when set to 550 and 100 bus acts like the ram is bad, but runs like a dream at 533 with 66 bus. Left it there. Temps never exceeded 32C. Curious now, but they are happy.
Documents, cpu and on screen info match PII 550.

Sarkazztic, nothing but a 56 modem in the forseeable future. Checked a week ago on that.
The list off the top of my head is this:
1. Inwin S500 case
2. 1.1 T-bird with upgraded AMD fan and heat sink.
3. ASUS A7V Mobo (has five PCI slots).
4. 2 40GB Western Digital Hard drives.
5. Maxtor Ultra PCI board.
6. Cooler Master Fan (front of case)
7. Sound Blaster Live audio card
8. 3.5 Floppy Drive
9. CDROM
10. Modem card
11. 17" monitor
12. Boze speakers
13. Keyboard
14. Ram (256) two sticks
15. Microphone
16. Network cards and cable
The CD-RW Drive will come later.
Don't think I missed anything. Did I?
Can't wait to get this built either, because I want to Ghost between the two computers. Another thing is to see if I can recover data off my old hard drive with the info DrMDJ supplied me. And with two computers, I will finally be able to check out various procedures, tests etc. we come up with at the same time I am in contact with ya'all. The way I have been doing it is not very efficient. Still haven't run all of Jaak's "stuff" he posted. And I will finally be in a position to have good backups.
The master foretold this. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

ONE HUMAN posted this elsewhere.
Here's a couple of other ways to get into Safe Mode.
Option 1. - Go to the Start button, Shut Down, Restart in MS-DOS mode. Once in DOS, at the command prompt, type "win /d:m" without the quotes, but with the space after "win". This will automatically load Windows in Safe Mode.
Option 2. - Go to Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, and click OK. On the General tab click the Advanced button. Put a check beside 'Enable Startup Menu' and click OK to close all boxes. Restart your computer. In the DOS Startup Menu select '3. Safe Mode' from the options. Don't forget to go back later and remove the check you added in MSCONFIG, so that your computer doesn't always begin with the Startup Menu.
Kinda like the extra options.

Train.....I am having a hard time finding any info on a pii 550....the highest I have been able to find is a 450mhz that ran at a 100mhz bus speed. all the 550's I am seeing are piii's....anyway that is very weird. If it werent for the on screen display saying pii 550 I would say it was one of those misprinted cpus that we have all read about.

Factory rebadge https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
About what I was thinking also. About had us bouncing off the wall.
Everything was matching so nicely too.
Thanks for the verification.
ME, I think it is a Celeron 533 someone got to. To late for warranty type stuff.

Celeron 533 would make perfect sense....specially with the 66mhz fsb. Is there not a 9x multiplier on the board to try running at 594mhz instead of 533? or is 8x the max?
**I just remembered something I read a while back....at one time they were going to call the flip chip Celerons CeleronII I wonder if they didn't just code that one PII instead of CII**

Makes cents to me and Recall something about that, now that you mention it.
Backed it down because of stablity. Do not remember. It was 3rd when He took it home, saying we are now leaving it alone. Did not do to bad rendering 3D and playing music at same time. Figured that would mess it up, but it didn't. Actually did better on the music than it did before when it was running solo.
Temp probes all showed acceptable temps. It was stable and they were happy with it.
He is now talking about a 1GB AMD. Think a project is in the making.
But, he is not getting my empty [new] S500 case! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Train take a look at this on your situation earlier
My Celeron2 566 MHz (Socket 370) shows as PIII-556 and I don't know what the CPU core voltage is. How can I get the new BIOS to recognise my correct CPU type?
A: This is the case on many of FIC's earlier Slot 1 products, as listed below:
KB-6120, KB-6130, KBI-6130, KL-6011, KLI-6130, KN-6010, KN-6000, VB-601,VB-601-Z VL-601, VL-603, KA-6100, KA-6130, KB-6130-V, KBI-6130-V, VB-601-V.
Users must refer to our CPU table for each model's CPU support range. http://www.fic.com.tw/techsupport/mo...ents/index.htm
read the whole article here fic faq
I know this is not exactly what you are looking for but at least it is close to documenting what you found
-
Very close indeed. Had a nice read. seems there were a few released at that.
Thanks

you know, once you network them, you can pump the entire content of the remote machine's drive to a huge zipfile, or even as a direct copy...
I know I done it when I ran trials,
at roughly 8K/s that is going to take a while, but not an eternity.
and then you could play with the 30GB and see what goes when your 40-with-only-32 usable- gets connected to this 370 controller.
my guess is that its data will simply become inaccessible.
(does this make sense?)
.
And once you have solved all these riddles, and got success in all your trials, Then you can call someone names...
You call them names like

Good Morning All, Showers, thunderstrorms, and 50 degree weather predominate north central Texas this morning as a cold front passes through the area.
That's pretty good reporting except this is a hardware forum. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Anyone have any earthshattering pronouncements to make regarding the present state of the art in connection with computers.

you made me laugh bistro....kinda warped but funny...
I tried to install the ultra/fastrak66 card into the athlon machine with no success...it will not load the drivers for some reason....this is not the first time I have had trouble installing a scsi type card into a via board....(both intances were kt-133) I am thinking there must be an issue here someone....I can put the card back into the test machine which is an ali chipset board and it works fine. However I want it to work in the athlon machine I want to be able to put 1 more hard drive into the athlon and with already having 2 cd devices and 1 hard drive and a atapi zip I am booked on IDE channels....I would just go out and buy the promise ata100 controller to accomplish this but I am thinking that it will not work and then I would just be throwing good money out the window. Very frustrated right now. I have 2 constants I will always have my computer and my wife will always have her computer that is considerably less than mine but I could just install this extra drive in her machine but then it would have to be turned on for me to acccess the files that I would store on it which is defeating the purpose...any suggestions? I guess I could always do a firewire drive or something like that....or I could turn the test/gaming machine into a server
