Guess it just didn't like this site.

Nix,
But Binary Dreams does not have any ads.
Joe,
I have good news and bad news:
Good news -- Yesterday when I logged into http://www.virtualdr.com/, there was an appealing and well designed ad that consumed minimal space. The ad was for http://www.thecounter.com/. Unfortunately, the ad is not on the site today.
and now for the bad news:
One of the VDR's favorite ads, which runs in the left hand column is for HP White Papers but it is very poorly designed and it appears to be aimed at the wrong audience, IMO.
Try this:
Sorry, I went to copy some of the text, which is strictly aimed at the geekiest geek and the ad is not there.
The language in the ad is not so much geekish as it is gobblegook. VDR members are not geeks. If the content is not aimed at geeks, then it needs to be translated into understandable English. Certainly the language in the ad needs to be updated. What ever concept or product that HP is trying to promote missed the boat IMO.
More good news:
I just checked back and there is another new ad from Jupiterdirect on 802.11 Wireless LAN Security. This ad and thecounter.com ad are a great improvement over previous ads. Keep up the good work.
I don't normally click on ads but thecounter.com was appealing and the price was right and I am looking for software, so I clicked on it. As a result, I am currently including this software in our list of website stats software to be evaluated.
Now the huge overbearing large box ads need to be redesigned.
Cheers,
Linda
 ;) :D
As for the homepage, yes its an improvement. The version tracker pro ad is much more stylish than the previous ones. Much more pleasing to look at. It is acceptable IMHO. As for the "The VirtualDR high-tech help threads..." section, that needs a facelift I think, as does the "VirtualDR Discussions by Topic " section. Perhaps the high-tech help threads section should be next to each other as opposed to on top of the other. Side-by-side, if you know what I mean. There probably won't be room for the By, Reply and Updated headers, but I see them as less important. This way, you can add more threads to the list, and you wouldn't have to scroll down more than you do now.
As for the discussions by topic, I was thinking of making each forum in the form of a button, instead of just writing the line and underlining it. It looks very dull. A framed "Windows XP" (or desktop hardware, networking, etc.) for example, would liven it up. I added an example in the attachment.
One feature that I like is that you can go to advanced mode from the quick reply without losing what you wrote.
yeah, losing that can get quite annoying.., and i have seen it save what you wrote on other vBulletin forums..Quote:

I'll click the Go Advanced button now.
And didn't lose a thing....... all fine here on that count.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant that it does save what you wrote when you move to advanced mode.
Cool... always good when we find something that works! ;-)
Like layout as it is now.
Suggestion for site:
include short word in search function (like CD, HD, PS etc)
and introduce search within results
its a little haphazard to find ones old posts, i.e. menus not that clear.
bit tired, therefor staccato, great stuff, Noid
Use CD**, HD**, WAV* etcQuote:

I noticed that some threads have a "Similar Threads" box at the bottom with links to threads which are supposed to be similar :). Firstly, good idea, I like it. I guess the VBulletin software picks the threads that are supposed to be similar (although they are not really similar at all), but what is the criteria for being a "similar thread"?
See attachment for example.
EDIT
I just noticed in the attachment I sent that the word "upgrade" appears in all the "similar threads" including the original thread. How does the software know to pick that specific word?
Sorry if this has already been suggested (too lazy to read all), but it would be nice to have a line under the sticky threads like these people.

Can't seem to get any answers here anymore, Philgo. :(
