I thought all isps counted email / surfing etc towards the total download total.

Count yourself lucky. I'm on a basic broadband service (256Mb d/l speed) that only gets 300Mb d/l per month before it then drops back to dial up speed.

The first month I didn't use it all, the second I was about 10Mb short, the third month used it in about 3 weeks, this month have about 100Mb left with about 5 days to go.

So 3Gb would last me almost 10 months, 30Gb 8.5 years !!!

Which ISP is that? Not bigpond.....

I am curious as to where all this is going to lead. The thread started off (and I, for one, am glad it was) as constructive criticism...bringing some important issues forward. So many of us have responded with our 2 cents (4 cents and more), our concerns, questions, and thoughts. Even some great ideas.
The question is, though, where does this go now?
Will there be a poll taken? A poll listing changes, options, etc... so we could all vote. Or are the changes going to primarily be via Jupiter?
If VDR is a computer help site, there should be a warning somewhere saying something like 'proceed at your own risk' and 'this is not to analyze, prevent, or cure computer problems'. This is not to be sarcastic but no guarantee can be made that the person replying to a HJT log or any issue at all, knows what they are talking about. For example, about two weeks ago, I was doing some research for a member at another site when I came across a 'computer help site'. A member, loaded with problems and desperate for answers and help, posted his/her HJT log. Two days later, someone replied with "I can't read that crap but all I can tell you is to delete everything that doesn't sound familiar". This member posting the log wasn't up to date on his patches, didn't have the latest HJT version, and the log was saturated with baddies. I was apalled. It took several minutes to get my jaw off the floor. The member never posted back to that site.
I don't know about all of you but I would remove such an idiotic post immediately. That's insane. I wouldn't want to be a part of a site that allowed such things. If we are a 'computer help site' where members help members, we should say so. VDR may not be liable for any mishaps, ruined computers, or excessive insanity but our intentions should be good and whatever our intentions are, they should be laid out on the table on every page (every forum category).
I want what is best for VDR. If that isn't obvious then please tell me so and I'll be quiet and stay out of all this. I appreciate very much that the Mods and 'higher ups' of VDR see that things need to be addressed and are working on it. That's a very good sign.
I'd be happy to sign up where I might be needed. I will even bring the cheesecake, brownies, coffee, and even make up the seating arrangements ;) .

Polls are always a hit or miss sort of thing... many don't see them and participate or just don't bother. So results can be skewed... And a number of issues brought up are really up to the owners and Mods of this board... have no fear, they are listening! (not that I really know that) ;-)

I'm pretty amazed at what some people post around here even! I've seen rude behavior from both posers & responders ... Mods even, yes Mods! ;-) When typing on the magic inter-world keyboard we don't always think about how that might sound eh?

As far as changes... the new forums are on tap sometime within the next couple of three weeks or so. Mentioned in the thread somewhere , busy time for the folks on that end.

I do not think it would be of any profit to split up the site into those 3 boards. Again, I believe you run the danger of forming cliques.....its human nature to do so when presented with "social categories". I think the idea that greatly needs to be preserved here at VDr is that no matter what your expertise, we are one community.
Water finds its own level. I think people that come here will view a particular thread and, if it is technically too deep for them, they simply move on to another one where they are more familiar with the topic.
How would one determine which category they fit in? One person's "Intermediate" is another person's "Beginner" and vice-versa. Do we give an exam? Call it "B+ Certification" or something like that (I wax sarcastic...). What constitutes an "Expert"? I may know Adobe Photoshop as if I were born with the knowledge, but not know diddlysquat on how to build a PC or the best components to buy. I work with people like that. Geniuses when it comes to databases, business apps and such like, but ask them about sound cards and they shrug and give you the deer-in-the-headlights look. If I am in that category, I will tend to stay put in the "Expert board: Graphics" forum and never come out except to go to the bathroom.
I just think that it would be a discriminatory element that we do not need. The intent would not be to discriminate, but the result would be I'm afraid.

Noticed some new names adding their thoughts. Quite important to voice your thoughts and opinions on what is being discussed. I cannot ever remember an effort such as this before. And the repeat poster's comment show much thought in their efforts. But regardless, whether one or many posts, you the member's thoughts, opinions, and suggestions are mightily important. Also the collective feeling being presented is very very nice to see.

It would appear VirDr is stirring. :) :)

Train on the link to JPNYCs' post regarding the upgrade, it says from 03-14-05 to 04-15-05. Is that a typo or did he mean a month for the upgrade?

HAHAHA! No, that was a typo on my part. The upgrade is nearly ready to go live. I'm sure it will sometime today. The actual transfer process requires the board to be down for about an hr. give or take a few minutes.
