Well tell us what you would still like to see changed Bill, that's what this thread is for, and as you can probably tell, we're particularly receptive to suggestions at the moment :D

Nix,
Have you tried the advanced version of the search tool, where you can apply different filters, which will probably reduce the maximum number of search entries required.
Cheers,
Linda
I have waited a week to report this but download a page is taking 2-3 times longer than it did in version 2. Downloading the ads is also taking much longer. That may be because the ads are animated.
Why is this?
Linda
This is one of the downsides to Vbulletin3 unfortunately. I've noticed for a long time that every site that runs version3 takes appreciably longer to render the page than the version2 sites. I don't think it has anything at all to do with the ads.
Then this could be a hinderance in attracting new registered members. I think that this is an issue that Jupiter needs to discuss with the VBulletin developers. It sounds like this is caused by inefficient code.
Just a thought.
Linda
But as virtually every other major forum is running identical software, with the same long rendering times we aren't at a particular disadvantage. I agree that it's probably something that the Vbulletin developers ought to look at, but I don't expect that we could get them to do anything specially for VDr or even for Jupitermedia.
Thanks to Joe, Big John and the Mod's for listening to the members and changing the placement of the ads. Its a big improvement.
1 of the things we may explore is storing the CSS code in a file, rather than in the database, which would allow browser caching of that file. That would go a small way toward speeding load time.

I had no memory of where the above thread was or when.
I knew it was called Spark Causes System Shutdown.
I first tried a basic search using Spark - the first thread listed was from 2002 and still is even though I've posted a response today that has the word spark in it.
I then went to Advance Search and used Spark as the key word and Nix as the author across all forums and any date - result: nothing, nada, nix.
Then tried Spark Causes System Shutdown for the keywords and Nix as the author searching heading only then entire body - result: zilch, zero, zip. (although this search now finds this thread which I have just posted to today http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=184599)
I ended up having to search for all posts started by me which luckily is only 295 and search back through them chronologically.
Now does everyone understand why I might need to have more than 500 when I'm searching for posts by me on any thread ?
EDIT: This thread that I'm posting this response in also comes up in the results for spark system but spark on it's own still shows 2002 as the first apparent thread ??
Using the forum search engine using key word:
"newegg", comes up w/ nothing;
"wireless", one thread only, posted today;
"nforce", nothing;
"directron", nothing;
"irfanview", only 11 threads;
"photoshop"; only 17 old threads from 1998 to 2000.
BTW, the 4 characters minimum is a pain ... I thought the old 3 characters minimum was bad.
A search using help causes proffered this response

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : help, causes
Virus - 465 results with the first being in August 2002 ?
Hijack ThisNAV* - 1 hit for today and then Feb 2000Quote:

So it would appear that Virtual Dr Search Appears A Little Sick
Key Word "hijack" comes up w/ this very thread!
There seems to be quite a few problem w/ the search engine. I think one of the problems is that it doesn't search the topics ... a mod needs to confirm this.
"ghost" gives only 48 results w/ the latest one dates back 2000!!!
Just did a basic search for Blue Screen which got me 165 results from 2000 and below and all in Windows95 forum ???
