JPNYC: I posted this in the VDR seems a little sick thread but it seems to have been passed over or was the wrong place.
If you do a search by user name it returns a max of 500 posts.
Even if you click on a user id for a post and click on Find all posts by Userid, eg http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sea...r&userid=44944, it still only finds 500.
Is this some imposed limit ?
Anyway to get round it ?
Do you really need more than 500 results Nix? Because it was felt that very few prople would look through even that many, and all it does is to give the server more work to do if the number of results is larger. If there is a compelling case for a larger number of results, then we'll be happy to listen, of course.
500 returns should be way more than enough for any search. Usually anything past the 1st 2 dozen is uneeded.
There have been times when I have searched through my posts by chronological order because I couldn't find them using specific words in either the heading or body and so I have just had to go through looking at the heading and then picking almost randomly until I find the one I'm after.
Of course if I was searching the entire forums then potentially that could be quite limiting depending on the words used.
eg for myself it limits me to post only as far back as 22/12/2004 for the whole forum it could be as little as one month of posts.
I can understand the pressure on the server but thinking about it as I type that is actaully one of my pet hates about the MSKB, that fact that it limits you to searching only 100 threads.
I want a google style search that will bring me back millions of answers if I want but even a Google search for site:www.virtualdr.com nix only got me one hit :(
Just to shift gears a little: isn't there a spellchecker now? And if so, which icon in the reply box is for the spellchecker? I can't find it :rolleyes:
So far as I'm aware there is no spellchecking option built into Vbulletin3, KatMac.

Not one that is built in, but I'm sure there's a hack to add such an option. vbulletin.org or .com cover the topic on hacks...
For those wanting a spell checking plug-in there is one for IE called iespell and there is also an extension for Firefox users which goes by another name. hth

Yes, its great to see that JM have some sense, and will listen to us little people once in a while.
For Diana, I realize that you may want to move on to another subject, but the subject of looks in VDr is a very important one to many of us. There are many people here who spend many hours a day on VDr, and want to have as comfortable a time aa possible. I am sure you can understand that. I am sure you would feel the same had your OS suddenly changed, your start button on the right side instead of the left or the taskbar on top instead of the bottom. Its just what we got used to, and for me personally, its also very important. This specific thread was started by myself solely for the purpose of talking about the upgrade of the VBulletin version. It is not to be confused with the thread started by DRMDJ about VDr "being sick". I also think that it is obvious that this thread was neccesary. As it turns out, Jupiter Media listened to our voices and decided to come towards us in their decision making. One could say it is a victory for all, because it keeps the users happy and coming to VDr, and JM happy about the users staying. Besides all that, this is what the Feedback forum is all about, and I am sure that JM and the VDr staff are more than happy to hear what the users think about their VDr experience.
Was this a neccesary thread? Absolutely, in my opinion. I am sure there are a lot of happier users now.
Whats gonna happen to the home page, www.virtualdr.com ? As stated by many, that page needs a drastic make-over. Is it going to happen, and if so, is there a timeline?

However, relocating the ad on the threads pages is such a positive, so much of an improvement, that my whole attitude has undergone a quantum change. There are still some things I would like to see changed, I can very definitely live with these folks and the advertising that is required to keep this site in business.
Note that I very much would prefer to see this site changed to that used by "codeguru" rather than seeing the reverse, but.....
