I just dropped by and saw your "drop by" Mosaic1... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. Yeah, sometimes those scans can help, but it might be a good idea to run AdAware right after. They sometimes like to leave behind a "gift" ("phone-home" ware).
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/But my Adaware is Out of Date... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Everything works fine. I'm gonna leave it alone. It was fun to watch all my little stuff being looked at.
I'll go see what it left behind.
Nothing suspicious found.
I emptied the Temp. files and cookies.
Speaking of that, is it ok to go to Internet options > Settings> View Files and then Select ALL and delete them right out of that folder. It says to do it from the "button" but I look back in there and they are still there ! Mostly just cookies, So I delete them again. Is that "dangerous"?
No, it's not "dangerous" unless you like to keep a cookie or two for quick access to certain web sites. The delete options in IE get rid of everything EXCEPT cookies for the above reason. You can go into Windows Explorer under Temporary Internet Files and manually delete those.
Just a clarification for your tweak sheet for your particular monitor:
After making sure it's refresh rate is set for 60mhz, when you run 3DMark2000, do the following:
Select "New Custom Benchmark"
Under #4, select "Change"
Scroll to "800x600x16 bit color"
Hit "OK"
Select the "Benchmark" button--not "Demo"
(that's for later... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
Remember, it won't work unless you have a 3D card installed....don't try it on the system you are running now.
Anyhoo, time to call it a night.
PS--AdAware 4.0 (newest) is on the CD coming atchya...should be there soon.

Ohhh All kindsa goodies.
Thank you. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I'll go change these now --and leave the others too.

This PentiumIII is the same part number as the one at Allstar for $259.00
This one is $204.00 retail box. 3 year Warranty. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

That's not the only one, either! I see at least four more places, on or about $205.00 https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Good thing we waited. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I'm running thru the motions. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Just making sure I know where all this stuff is.
Looking at the Advanced button on the Settings of the monitor. I see no place where I would change the Refresh Rate to 60htz. It just lists all the stuff. Mfg. chip type, etc. There is a Change button but it just brings up a wizard for changing the drivers. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
EDIT:
Also, can you look at this and make sure this is what I want. There is also a $10.00 off for new customers https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ and a mail in rebate for $20.00 ...if I buy and get it in the mail before Jan.31,2001.
Just not sure about the kind of RAM---128MB PC133 NON ECC DIMM CL3 It's KINGSTON.
If this is it...I might get two ! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
[This message has been edited by Queen_of_Hearts (edited 01-28-2001).]
That's the RAM you want.
Under that same menu, you'll see the "Adapter" tab--that's where you'll change it to 60hz. Take a looksee there and post back what the setting is now.
Frost on the pumpkin. 28 degrees. A little cold for us.
I am set for 60Hertz on video, Just checked.

bistro,
This is what's under the Adapter Tab.
Cirrus Logic5434 PCI CHANGE
Adapter/Driver information
Manufacturer: Cirrus Logic
Chip Type: CL-GD5434REVEF Rev 0
DAC type: Internal

If I click the Change button it takes me to the wizard to install new drivers.

There is no Display tab.
This was right clicking on the desktop> properties.
I even went to Control Panel and clicked Display Icon. Same stuff as in the Advanced button on the Settings tab in properties on the desktop.
You video card maybe old enough not to have it, or in a different place. What tabs do you have// Have you looked throgh all of them. A Puzzle for sure.

yep looked in all of them.
General, Adapter, Monitor, Performance, Color, Management
On the main window Background, Screensaver, Appearance, Effects, Web, Settings
Maybe in multimedia or somwhere else. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Well, if it is because of the old card, then the place to change it may show up with the new card ?
I'll dig around some more in the Control panel.
There is a Video tab in multimedia but no place there either.
One place I could not look was in the Settings button where the screen savers are. That's grayed out. Probably because I have no screen savers on here.

On adapter it shows optimum [just set] and refresh rate is 85HZ.
drop down about 2/3 way down page.

Only two thirds of the window has stuff on it.(all that stuff I listed --cirrus logic etc.) The bottom third is blank. And only that one button...CHANGE.(for the drivers)
It has got me that is for sure. But, it'll be there with the new one. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Train's right I think..video too old. Not to fear--when your new card's in there, it'll show up--just use those settings (and the ones I gave you for 3DMark2000). Once you get a new monitor, you can reset it to "Adapter Default" and use the original settings for the test.
I'm thinking this computer had the video built into the motherboard and not a card. The only two cards are the modem and the sound card.
I'll know where to look when the time comes now anyway. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Haven't pushed the submit button yet for the RAM. Think I really should get two at that price?
My video is built in also.
If you want it go for 256.
Mine is ATI Rage LT PRO 2X from what it says??

One thing I am worried about that I just noticed. My Western Digital HD is not an ATA66...it's an UltraATA/100. Is that a problem? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
NO It will run a ATA66 or ATA33. Backward compatible. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Despite the hd manufacturers' hard advertising, lauding these ATA-66 and ATA-100's to the skies, you have to remember that we're talking about maximum burst rates of 66 or 100. Certainly your mobo should support burst rates like that in order to support a hard drive that is capable of such rates, but does the hard drive constantly run at those speeds???
NAY. It's just capable of doing so. The real speed increase you'll see is the fact that new hard drive can access a bit faster because of the rpm's. 5400 vs. 7200--there's the naked eye advantage really, when it all boils down to it. If the burst rate exceeds the "normal" 33, say, the system hit 58 because it needed to, well glory be, you had a 66 in there and it just happened to be able to handle it. Not much difference between the 66 and 100 if any--program requirements won't hit 100 transfer speed anyway. Remember we're talking about a couple of seconds access speed here, if that.
You'll see the difference between a 5400 and a 7200, but really just a small increase in speed; nothing super spectacular. Speed increases come in combos; tweaking swap file, vcache, registry, etc. in combo with a faster hard drive, more RAM, faster CPU. There's not just one single solution to speed/performance.
The soapbox is free---calling it a night--almost through with that S500 cheatsheet.
Nite all...
Yes ! That's what scared me. When I looked back at the list of our componants it said ATA66 but I got out the box this one came in and it said ATA/100. I didn't even think about that part of the numbers when I bought it. Mighta screwed up ! Especially since it's already in !
EDIT:
You posted as I was bistro. Thanks.
I will sleep much better now.

Hmmmm...I sent him a tip sheet on how to build a mainframe computer in your basement for only $100....maybe he's busy with that...
https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Hey! I didn't get one of those. No fair!
But I did just get a little package https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ It contains my Hercules Prophet II Video card!!!
TAA DAAAAA!! What you hold in your hands, my lady, is a key to a whole new world of 3D. When we get that in your new system, and you run that 3DMark2000 test and demo, you won't know what hit you... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/. treat it with reverence....
"3D or not 3D? Is that 2B the question?"

Am only able to check back here every hour or so--sorry. So...refresh my memory...what components do you have now? And what's on order? Also, let me know when the "surprise" arrives in the mail.
Got the package just now! Thank you. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
You even used a 3M Cushioned Mailer. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Gotta get back to work. I'll do the list in a little bit.
