After receiving that message I just stated above, I clicked continue and it now says Bitdefender AV free was installed. I didn't click continue this time earlier, because I assumed it would give me the error message I stated earlier when clicking it. After I created an account, I had to verify my e-mail used. Then, it asked me to log into Bitdefender central account, which I did. After signing in, a popup appeared with 3 options (activate a subscription, try Bitdefender, and buy Bitdefender). I selected activate a subscription and now it is prompting for an activation code.
Do it again and select try Bitdefender instead. activating a subscription is for a paid version.
Fink, I clicked on Try Bidefender and 2 options appeared (Protect this device - download Bitdefender total security to protect this device and protect other devices). The free is AV Plus, not Total security. Which option would I select?
I selected protect this device option and it completed the installation, but it says it expires in 30 days. Is the AV Plus free version only valid for 30 days?
I believe that the Plus version will become the simpler free version after thirty days. When I installed it I didn't get that prompt you did and the basic free version installed right off the top. Not sure why but I do remember being a little confused about the various versions that were being offered.
I guess I will see if that happens at the end of my 30 days.
I just ran Malwarebytes again and it found 2 PUP.Optional.Segurazo entries. One located in C:\Program Files (x86) and the other in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\SAntivirus. The SAntivirus isn't listed in my apps or in Revo like it was the first time I had this Segurazo AV. I wish I knew what was causing this.
Did you delete the files or not? I wouldn't bother with quarantining them.

I quarantined them first via malwarebytes, then I deleted the folders/files. I have been performing a malwarebytes scan multiples times a day to see if they appear again. If they do, I guess I will post in ICU.
Regarding my Bitdefender AV, it says that my subscription has expired and is asking for me to renew. It did not convert over to the free version. Does anyone know how I can convert my Bitdefender AV over to the free version?
Considering this has been an ongoing issue I'd suggest going directly to the Bitdefender forums and ask them what to do.

I had installed the 30 day trial version instead of the free version. I uninstalled the trial version on my laptop and tried to install the free version. I still receive a "potentially incompatible software found" error message. It says "Avast update helper was detected on my system." I don't see anywhere on my laptop that I have this anymore. Perhaps, I am looking in the wrong folder. Which folder in windows 10 should I be looking?
Why didn't I receive this error message when I installed the trial version, but do when I attempt to install the free version? I don't see Avast update helper on my laptop. Could it be somewhere in the registry that I am not aware?
It is probably listed under Services. Try Stopping and Disabling the service, then reboot.
JDC2000, I checked services and the avast update service was set to "stopped." There isn't a disable option associated with it.
There should have been a Startup type: Disabled
It's the drop down menu right above the Service status buttons.
How is there still an Avast service? I thought you ran the Avast uninstall tool?

I did run the Avast uninstall tool before and I When I go to task manager/services, I have 4 Avast service entries listed (2 Avast update service entries, Avast secure browser evaluation service, and Avastwscreporter). The status of all of them were set to "stopped." When I right-click on one of the services, I click on "open services." There is only 2 services listed there (Avast secure browser evaluation service and Avastwscreporter). I was able to disable the Avast secure browser evaluation service. When I try to disable the Avastwscreporter, it says access denied. Can it cause any issues when removing a service? How should I proceed?
So you uninstalled all Avast applications, but you still have Avast services left? Did you run the uninstaller from Safe Mode or not?

You need to go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, not Task Manager. No wonder you didn't see the right options.
Yes, I ran uninstaller in safe mode. I don't have administrative tools when I click on control panel. I clicked on windows start icon and clicked on windows administrative tools app from the list. It takes me to the same services window from the way I did it by opening task manager and selecting services tab.
When you go into Control Panel, you have to choose Large Icons or Small Icons, NOT Category in order to see Administrative Tools.Quote:

You could also go to Start > Run > services.msc
The Services tab in Task Manager and the Services control panel applet (services.msc) are different. You need to use services.msc to get the service name for removal. Then you can use the instructions I posted earlier:Quote:

I went to services.msc from the run box and it is the same servides window as the other 2 ways I tried.
Ah wait a minute. I thought you were running Win7. I got mixed up with someone else that answered your post. Oops my bad.
My answer about removing the service is still the same. The uninstaller should have removed the services, but you'll have to do it manually.

If you only see 2 services, start by removing them first.
As I said all along, the Task Manager|Services tab is NOT the same as Services.msc. When you click "Open Services", that takes you to Services.msc.
You need click Right-click and Properties on the service you want to delete to get the Service name. Then you use the Service name to remove the service from a command prompt. It's all in the link I posted before.

I was able to delete the Avast services with the exceptioin of one. It was the AvastWSCReporter. It gave me an error message ([SC] DeleteService Failed 5:
Access is denied). I tried installing Bitdefender AV anyway and I still get the same error message (Avast update helper was detected on your syste. In order to continue installing Bitdefender AV, please remove any other antivirus solutions). I even tried installing it after rebotting my laptop and it still gives me the same message.
Hmm. Do you see wsc_proxy.exe running in Task Manager? If so, try stopping it and then remove the service.

Midknyte, I don't see any "wsc_proxy.exe" listing
They told me to run the Avast uninstaller utility tool that you told me to run before. I told them I already ran it before in safe mode and it didn't remove it. They told me to wait to see if an Avast staff can help me more. I didn't know Avast staff reads and responds to their forum community. Someone suggested force removing the service from link below. Would that cause me more issues if I do that?

When you ran the sc delete command, were you in an elevated command prompt? I'm guessing that you were, if you followed the instructions on the list I posted before.
You could try removing the registry key, but you might get a permission denied on that too. At this point, you might as well try it.
If you mean elevated command prompt as in administrator, yes I was.
I found the AvastwscReporter service entry in regedit and I deleted it, but I didn't do it in safe mode, like the instructions said. I wonder if that will cause any issues. I checked to see if it still shows up in task manager/services and it is still listed there. Perhaps, I need to reboot and hopefully it will be gone from there, as well.
I rebooted and the AvastwscReporter is no longer listed in servcies anymore. I tried to install Bitdefender again and I still receive that same error message (Avast update helper was detected etc....). :(

Did you search for a wsc_proxy.exe file on your system, or did you just look at processes in Task Manager?
You can use something like Everything Search to find any files/folders name Avast also.

I don't use Bitdefender or Avast, so it's hard for me to duplicate your error.
I have everything search installed and yes, I did a search for that exe file and I do not have it.
I just did a search in my registry for "Avast" and it found numerous Avast entries. Do I just right-click on the entry in the right box and click delete for each of them found? I don't want to mess up my registry.
Do you use a paid or free version of AV?
For Win10, I just use Windows Defender and MBAM. For work, I have to use Symantec.
You can make a backup of your registry first, if you're worried. I'm not sure what else you can to get rid of Avast.
Midknyte, sorry for the delay in my reply. The Avast forum didn't really have any solutions, either. They told me to run the Avast removal tool, which I told them I already ran. Since I can't install the Bitdefender AV free version, I came across another free AV called Virustotal. Do you know if that is a good AV?
Virustotal is an online scanner only. You send individual files to be scanned after you suspect they may be infected. Not a substitute for an installed program.
At this point, you should probably create a new thread in the ICU. Maybe Broni will see something that needs to be cleaned out.

The original problem was Segurazo, but now you can't fully uninstall Avast in order to install BitDefender. Maybe he'll have a better suggestion for AV also.
If all else fails, you still have Windows Defender.

There were several listed (Windows Security or Virus and Threat Protection). Which one is it? Also, I just started uising a paid version of VPN. Do I still need to use an AV?
There is only one Windows Defender. The settings are under Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection.
