If you didn't select and app, it would take you back to the previous directory. Notice that .. is selected by default, as in the cd .. command.
I usually run Memtest86+ V5.01. Choose the program and let it run. I usually do 2-3 complete passes.

Scroll or arrow down to memtest86+ v5.01 and hit enter.
Late again i see.
Midknyte and Train...my bad, I forgot to scroll, but good news is that I ran the test you both recommended to run, two passes, and it came up without errors. I have to remember that this is a Pentium M processor, 1.73 Ghz., and it ain't gonna zoom.
I'll post copies of my programs as listed in Control Panel...as usual, a lot of the HP stuff is bloatware, in addition to a lot more, I'd wager...so they also slow the system down even more! I'll gladly uninstall a lot of the chaff after I figure out how to take a picture of the screen so I can save it into jpeg format in Paint and then upload it here. Any idea what key puts info on my Clipboard, because it sure ain't PrtScn-SysRq : )
Tap or click the window you want to capture.
Press Alt+PrtScn.
A picture of the window is copied and you can paste it wherever you'd like.
mspaint is native to XP

Snagit has been around a long time.

Morning Train...
I tried both your advice and that reading from the tutorial and neither method is working, so there might be something wrong with this HP laptop keyboard?! Been using the PrtScnSysRq key in combo with Paint for years no matter what system I'm using, and this is the first one that's balked! When I open Paint and choose Edit-->, the only selections in the submenu that are even available are Select All and Paste From...everything else is greyed out.
Click where you want it to go and use Ctrl+v
See if that works.
Yeh, tried that, too, but the same result. I've been using ctrl x and ctrl v for so long. It's just not working. Baffled.
Are you sure you don't have to hit the Fn key first?

Toshiba Vista, Clicked top of window
Alt+Prtsc
Opened paint
Edit and selected Paste
Always used the native snipping tool before now.

The solution, for this laptop anyway...
Sorry I left this thread mid-solution, but was away on a bizz trip that morphed into the 4th day...
Anyway, it's the <<fn>> key plus <<insert (prt sc)>> that capture the display image, which I then paste into Paint for saving as a jpeg. So thank you for post #32, midknyte. This is something that Train also advised in a previous thread of mine a while back, so even more reason to review one's history and post back!
In the name of saving valuable time, I'll now create the screenshots of files that show my entire, current list of programs for some help with uninstalling any that I don't need on an older system such as this one.
Thanks again.
Per my post #50: to increase available resources, whatever I can stop from loading, using either uninstall in Control Panel or a web-based uninstaller, here is the most current lineup of my programs.Attachment 12881Attachment 12883
Thank you.
Adobe reader - I use PDFXchange viewer a lot lighter on the system.
HP update - after 3 months of ownership that can go.
J2SE is out of date I believe and needs to be updated or uninstalled
HP wireless, replace with Windows wireless, then uninstall
If you switch to the VLC media player, you can get rid of Quicktime.
Unless you really use the Apple/Itunes stuff, I dump it too.
Just my thoughts as I hate these memory hogs
