You must really like what you are doing. I am still updating windows and I should tell that I must have had windows automatic update off and I have not updated for a long time. There were lots of updates for me to do. Dont know if that was part of the problem. I will let you know how the thing is doing when have finished your instruction and give it a test run
No problem. Take your time :)
Broni I am still having the same problem. It appears that when IE loads it loads faster but it still hangs. I will click IE, it loads to my home page "google" real quick. I shut down the browser and click it again and a few bars show on the progress bar and nothing happens. I shut the browser and click again and it loads right up.
We'll sort it out, don't worry.
Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?
Do you have any other browser installed to see, if same thing happens?
I followed your instructions and same problem. I have firefox and Opera installed and it seems like opera has the least occurances but it has done it also once or twice. IE and firefox are frequent
Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.
Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.
Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.
NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.
Same problem?
I assume you know we have been through all this before in previous posts and you want me to do it again?
by the way, I use outlook express as a mail handler and it lock up sometimes also.
Wait.
When you did it before, you said:
Maybe you didn't follow my instructions well, because the above services ARE Microsoft (Windows) services, so they shouldn't be disabled anyway.Quote:
It disabled all except
Remote Procedure call (rpc) locator
Remote Procedure Call (rpc)
DCOM Server Process Launcher
Part of my manual says:
Try again. Make sure, you don't disable any Windows services.Quote:
Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.
I'm getting ready for bed, so, if the above procedure won't help, re-enable all startups and services you just disabled, restart computer and we'll try something more extreme.
I want you to uninstall AVG, using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
Uninstall Zone Alarm as well.
Turn Windows firewall on, restart computer and see how it goes.
I'll check back here tomorrow morning.
I am going to bed also. I will do this tomorrow morning. Thank you so much for all your help
No problem :)
Broni I did the above and a couple of things happend that I cant explain. First was an error message that said something could not be accessed and I may have to log in a an administrator. Even so I was prompted to restart and when msconfig came back up after restart the check was no longer in the box that said hide microsoft process. Once i checked that box again everything left was unchecked. Which I am assuming is correct. The other issue is on the startup tab zone alarm was unchecked when I hit apply but after restart it was checked and zone alarm is running. I am still experiencing that same problem. Is the next step to remove AVG as you suggested?
AVG and ZoneAlarm as well.
Broni this has appeared to have solved the problem. I have windows firewall turned on and AVG and Zone Alarm removed and I do not seem to be having the problem
Excellent :)
Now, you need some decent AV program.
Download and install one of these:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1...antivirus.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
I'm still curious, if it was AVG, ZA, or both...
I don't like either of them, so it shouldn't matter :)
what about a firewall? do you just suggest using windows?
Windows firewall is perfectly fine.
Broni thank you so much for your help
You're most welcome :)
Stay safe :)
