I really don't like the case or power supply I was thinking of antec 900 case and corsair 750 watt power supply. I feel that this is a very good cpu any suggestions on mobo and mem.
The CPU, RAM and hard drive are fine. I'm not particularly impressed with anything else. I've always stuck with either Gigabyte or Asus for motherboards for the last 10 years, and I've never regretted it once.
I'm building myself a new Core i7-920 rig this week too :)
Intel Core i7 920,ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366,WD1001FALS Caviar Black,Corsair CMPSU-850TX,Antec 900 case,BFG Tech EGTX260MC896 OC2DE,Corsair Core i7 Dominator 6Gb Pc312800,windows 7 Home Premium. Opinions welcome because this is my first build. If I have left anything out please let me know. I have optical drives in current system.
Ditto to use of GIGABYTE mobo.
That particular Corsair power supply is actually manufactured by CWT so I'm a bit leery about that.
Personal preference would be Seasonic brand for power supply.
Any suggestions on Asus or Gigabyte mobo around $200.

Other boards are available, depending on options needed.
They aren't any good for an 17-920, jdc2000, it need to be an LGA 1366 mobo. Unfortunately, all 1366/X58 mobos are on the pricy side, though they are half the price they were at the beginning of the year. I think you may have to be prepared to up your budget little if you are set on socket 1366. Or you could consider going for a Core i5 and an LGA 1156 motherboard - the mobos are cheaper and there isn't a big performance hit at all.
Read a lot of good about the i5-750 2.66 GHz cpu.
The items I suggested would work with the old CPU, not with a new i7 CPU.
Looks like it is going to be the Asus P6T Deluxe V2 and the xms3 ram instead of the dominator.
That is a fine choice of mobo and RAM :)
I went for the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P for my build, with Corsair XMS3 memory.
