Hmmm, I also seem to have darksma under software key "don juan".
Neither can be removed by CA anti-spyware.
Hmmm, interestingly every time I try and click on an application now it's changed from "you may not have permission" to suggesting that it doesn't have a listed purpose and that I need to change it through folder options. I can't access folder options, but this seems to be getting better...
ruternam is no longer being detected by CA anti-spyware.. it's now just darksma that is showing up and registering as cannot be removed.
To clarify:
The only malware that I'm not able to get rid of using CA anti-spyware is darksma.
I can't use CA Virus scanner as it won't work... ditto safe mode, msconfig, system restore or hijack this.
Oh... FakeAlertF... it will be quarantined effectively by the system, but then constantly reappears.
I'll move this thread over to the appropriate forum now, the Hardware forum really isn't the best place to get help with cleaning up malware.
My mistake... it's the ruternam e that won't be removed by CA.
Also, starting to hear unsolicited radio signals through my speakers.
Okay, I think it might just be best if I try and upload my files then reformat.
Print these instructions out.

3. Download HijackThis:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html
Post HijackThis log.
With all the numerous problems I had, I decided to up my files and reformat.
The reformatting seems to have got rid of all the trojans... I'll just now have to see if redownloading my necessary files doesn't bring them back.
I'd suggest multi scanning any executable files that you may have backed up...
here..
http://www.virustotal.com/
or here if it's busy...
http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Okay, after a few good days, I now seemed to have picked up the Lager trojan in my common files directory.
Here's my HijackThis log if anyone would be kind enough to take a look:

Okay, the Trojan was quarantined by CA and I managed to delete ALL of the Norton Software after removing it via regedit.
However, I've crashed a few times before this due to "failure of general hosting win32 software".. a concern?
Post fresh HJT log.
I keep getting four pop ups on my log on asking for Symantec now, which is irritating, as well as the general win32 host crash every other time.
Anyway, here's the latest HJ log:

There is still a lot of Norton software running. You will need the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of it.
As said, you have to run Norton Removal Tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039
Then, you don't have SP2 installed, but DON'T attempt to install it, because your computer is infected.
Print these instructions out.
1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html.)
* Close SUPERAntiSpyware.
Restart computer in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; select Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen
* Open SUPERAntiSpyware.
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
o Close browsers before scanning.
o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
* To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
* Click Close to exit the program.
Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.
RESTART COMPUTER!
2. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebyt...are_d5756.html to your desktop.
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.
The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
RESTART COMPUTER!
3. Post new HijackThis log.
Am I really still infected?
I've been using CA anti-spyware and CA anti-virus... are these both okay? Maybe I should use them in safe mode?
Oh, the Norton removal worked btw, so thanks for that.
Okay, here's the latest Hijack This after running CA anti spyware and anti virus in Safe Mode:

I still find that I keep getting a pop up asking me to log on to "bbconnect" or something.
Bluesoleil is a program that I want (though not necessarily as start up)... it's my bluetooth device.
Look...you need to follow my instructions, if you want to cleanup your computer.
On a top of it, you ran HJT from Safe Mode.
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.
I just got the CA software via links on this site so wondered if I could use them in place of the ones you suggested?
I don't want to interfere but using the specific programs that our hijackthis experts suggest is recommended. We have a high volume of malware/hijackthis threads and trying to decipher results from other, less familiar scanners or other programs regardless of their quality really add a lot of unecessary time and grief to the process.
thanks for understanding :)
Oh, that's cool, it's just that SuperSparks recommended in the second post that I do an online scan with E Trust Web Scanner. As this worked well, I bought my products from them.
As fink said, and then, you have to keep in mind, that your regular AV program is mostly what it is - keeping viruses out of your computer.
There are more threats out there, then viruses only.
Okay, so I followed this to the letter.
After I did the Superantispyware in safe mode (it detected and removed 16 objects - all tracking cookies) and rebooted, it didn't save a log.

1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.
2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.
3. Put a checkmark next to the following HijackThis entries (some entries will be checkmarked to disable unnecessary startups; in those cases (marked with *), no actual program will be removed):
