I know. My parents even donated. Very proud of those 2 old folks, not just for that.
I kinda get choked up thinking about how wonderful this all is. It's a pretty special thing that so many have come together... from different parts of the world.. all walks of life....pretty amazing. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/im...2008/07/10.gif

Come on guys, lets all give a helping hand!

The check is in the mail. :)
Grazie. I wonder if Pete is updating the total including mailed checks, or just the paypal donations. Things have kinda slowed a bit on this, which is to be expected I think
Yeah, that would be interesting to know.
Does he and his family know that the doctors and hospitals can't charge interest on Dr.'s bills? I wasn't aware of that myself until recently. Instead of putting a few on my credit card or HELOC, I set up payments directly so I wouldn't be charged interest. Also, if just a bit is paid on each bill, each month, you are at least "trying" and they can't (I believe I'm right) send it to collections. I heard someone speaking about a relative they have that has two children with Hunter's Syndrome and some of the free local available resources that they could use, plus some of the info. on medical bills and the above info. that they can't send bills to collections if you're at least paying something on them. I'm sure there is a bunch more info. out there to be found on how to deal with excessive Dr. bills.
Hope that helps.
I just remembered something.....
A long time ago, the federal government started passing out huge sums of money to hospitals all over the country to upgrade and improve facilities. Hospitals weren't required to take the money....but if they did, they had to agree to provide treatement regardless of ability to pay. These were known as Hill-Burton Hospitals. Ran a search and found this:
http://www.hrsa.gov/hillburton/
Pete needs to check for these facilties in his area. Hospitals will not advertise the fact that they are Hill-Burton....you have to force them to cough up the info....which they are required by law to give when requested to do so. He may have to jump through some red tape hoops, but the bottom line is that Hill-Burton hospitals cannot refuse treatment because of lack of insurance or ability to pay. Least that is my understanding.....
I alerted him. Thanks Maxx

Been a couple new updates to the site....

Thanks for the reminder maxx ;)
Yeah...I know that feeling....getting those huge bills in the mail after a procedure. You feel like saying, "Excuse me for wanting to live...."
I have been a capitalist/conservative all my life.....but I am here to say that the time has come for socialized medicine in this country. People have a right to live regardless of their salary or insurance....period.
Well if you listen to my UK pal who just had his 1st doctor visit in the states, you might think differently. He said the difference in competence is like night and day. The doc here sussed more about his condition in 10 minutes than his doctors back home have in 10 visits.
Greed is a very powerful motivator.
They just hit 4k even on ana's site.
Excellent news ... wow I just checked it and it was 3.9 :D
Well I donated again to even it off. I couldn't stand it sitting there the whole time I was on vacation
you are too funny JP :p
I was checking it from England. It wasn't movin'.
Yep it sat there quite a while.... I was wondering.... does it automatically update when someone donates..... or is it a manual update?
Manual. Paypal is a secure setup, I couldn't get a feed to have it update auto. But I wrote the javascript so that Pete just has to open the page, and change one number, and everything else happens. The line moves up, the number shown changes, and the red background also gets higher.
Ok kewl ... I just wondered ;)

Bills are now over 31KQuote:
One last thing… My family and I want to express a huge Thank You, with the donations that have come in though the site. However we ask that you keep spreading the word and helping out.

This is good news from the updates: :)

We recently found out that Ana’s wish to go to the Nintendo World Store was approved. We’ll be in New York December 12-14, spending a large amount of time at the Nintendo Store on the 13th.
As I mentioned before we have Central High School here in Duluth raising money for MAW. They have gotten a couple of local radio stations onboard now and November 9th & 10th they’re doing a radio telethon to help with Ana’s and another northland boy’s wishes. To find out more check out the Minnesota Make-a-Wish chapter at www.wishmn.org. Here is a direct link to the event page for the telethon you’ll see a nice photo of Ana.
That is awesome .... I bet she will have a wonderful time there :)

There's been some updates......

Hey admins......I caught this thread trying to slip off the front page. Threads can get sneaky like that sometimes.... :p
How about pinning this one...at least until after the holidays when folks are in the giving mood.... :)
You got it Maxx
Great updates ... thanks Maxx :)
For all of you here that have taken such a great interest and proactive hand in helping Ana Senarighi, her dad Pete told me seconds ago that they just got the results of the 1st MRI done since chemo treatments began, and the tumor is significantly smaller. The doctor feels that 3 more chemo treatments should kill it. It's roughly "pea-sized" now, according to her dad.
Thank you SO much one and all for your help, it looks like this young girl is going to recover.
We still need to try and raise what we can, since the bill total, always growing, is now over $50,000, but now we have reason for strong hope!
Thanks one and all, JPnyc.
I just saw this in the other thread! What wonderful news!! :)
Thats great news! :)
bump^^^^
Well...not really a bump since it is already at the top....but more of a stick (as in stick out for people to see)....
But I digress....
Check out the update. Very touching and sad story about another family in distress, but also a before and after image of Ana's tumor. A chance to "see" progress...... :)

We are going to have a little talk with Pete about using a PDF format for the images though. Everybody hates those..... :D
