WOO HOO! Congratulations and keep up the excellent work :)
Aw man, I'm feeling unloved! Miserly sub-500 posts in just under 5 years. I need to up my game I know, but I'm wondering if I could get into at least a top 100 if someone could work out a percentage count on *answering* posts rather than starting them? (discounting discussion boards of course!)
On another note... I usually drift in and out of VDr depending on work, but I have noticed 2 things on my visits to VDr in the last couple of years, namely:
1) the number of posts *appear* to be on the decline
2) the technicalilty of the posts *appear* to be increasing
Correct me if I'm wrong, but thats how I see it. I guess there are more and more forums to assist people these days and people are more clued up than they used to be.
On the other hand though, there are people using computers for the first time more now than at any other time previously, so is it just a case of finding this site? I cannot even remember how I found this site, but I do remember promising that I would do my best to help others if someone answered my first issue!! I'd like to think I kept that promise :o)
TEk
TEk, the newer OS's are doing a better job of protecting people from themselves. They can not damage their computers as easily as they could with 98.
Example: A cad program my daughter had replaced .dlls in 98 in such a manner that it just about stopped the rig dead in its tracks, but since it could not replace any in XP, the computer, OS and cad program all run just great.
Over the years I have noticed a cyclic behavior in that. But then there are no one click fixes either.Quote:

Thanks for noticing. Frankly I find it hard to believe I've been hanging around for the better part of 9 years :)
I wondered why JP sent me a PM about my VRDR longevity the other day. I didn't know y'all were talking about me in here LOL.
Just found a guy who joined in 1997;

Posts aren't declining, at least over the time I've been here. They've been remarkably steady since 05.
Congrats to Shotsi, and members of the thousands-of-posts club; my thanks to you all for years of help. I was curious, and checked out the members list. There are a lot of "members" with zero posts. Why anyone would join and not post, who knows. In any event, I could not find myself listed as a member; maybe I was just having an elder moment and missed it. But this board has logged my posts at 372. I want an independent board of inquiry! I am sure I have posted more than that piddling number! I want to be in the top 100 as I was at NoWonder and at SnortWorld. According to this board's stats I joined in June 2000, but now even that data has been thrown into question. I joined before Al Gore invented the internet.

Here you go.Quote:

It's possible post counts aren't necessarily accurate. A few members lost some a number of years ago when the forum/BBS software was upgraded... I think it may have been 5 or 6 years ago.
I could be wrong in this... but I think that with earlier versions of the software you had to join to use certain functions (possibly search) which would explain why there are a lot of old "zero count" members. (Or it may have been an option that the admins had once set on purpose)
Yes fink, a lot of us lost huge numbers of posts during that switch.
I lost over 5,000 which did and does not bother me any.
So, yes that can well explain why some folks from back then have small post counts. Then again, a lot of them were like me and disregarded the count change even though it was offered to bring them back in line.
We worked it out to somewhere between 6 to 8GB of data was lost also.
Dear SpywareDr,
Thank you for "finding" me. I have recomposed myself in my newly self-and-virtual-drive-reaffirmed status.
Yes, fink, that was what I was thinking, that at one time you had to join to access any information on the board, and that that was why there were so many zero post members.
I really don't care about my recorded numbers of posts; surely you noticed my ;), and I don't doubt for a moment that Train "lost" 5000 posts; he has been a irreplaceable contributor, always there to answer.

I've been around for a while too and lost some post count due to that data corruption. I was offered the chance to have my post count fixed but said don't bother. Post count by itself is really a meaningless indicator of a member's contributions. That was long before I found out about the secret forum accessible only to members over a certain post count. I'm not willing to post drivel only to access the forum though, so I'll plod along and maybe someday.... aaaaaaaah never mind. :rolleyes:Quote:

Well I hope that is a good thing :-)
Of course it is. Nice to see you on VDR again.
hey guys! I joined back in Oct 1998 and I am still active. I haven't posted as much but hey, I am here. I have found it to be the best board around with some very smart/helping and nice people. Thanks all for sticking around and provide invaluable help!
Wow, that IS a long time. Don't be such a stranger! The place can be fun even when your PC isn't busted! :)
Yeah, you won't have any excuse now that you're building a new machine.:D
Ah the same search now finds 4 members and I believe Murf has just pipped Fink by 10 days in terms of date joined.Quote:
