Instead of doing a 'rollback', have you tried system restore?
Hey, I noticed something that has happened since WMP10 which is pretty neat.
I can now rename and move files whilst a song is playing, without getting the 'File is in use' message.
Anyone notice this?
Hong
Here is the URL I used to download WMP 10:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...layer/download
Notice the extra switch just before "player". Also, as noted, it only works with the XP os.
When this link saved into the thread it didn't print as I typed it up but I tried it and it does run correctly as posted ???
any one know for sure that WMP 10 is strictly for XP only?
haven't found any links saying otherwise., NBut when I try and reinstall 10 on top of 9 the download only gives myself the 9 version.
???
Yes, it's official.
Here are the system requirements from Microsoft's 'Read Me' for WMP10.

I keep seeing people saying "rollback", exactly how do you do a rollback from MP10 to MP9? The only way I saw was to use system restore. Windows XP Home SP2.
This is from the FAQ page (in an earlier post).
If you have installed Windows Media Player 10, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was on your computer before installing Windows Media Player 10.
To roll back from Windows Media Player 10 to a previous version
In Control Panel (Category View), click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Add or Remove Programs again, and then do one of the following:
If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, select the Show updates check box (at the top of the list), click Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.
- or -
If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or earlier, click Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.
You can also use System Restore to roll back to the previous version of the Player.

Just a reply on using system restore. I do not use it, and never have. This system restore is in my view only a "half" solution, so to say. Most of the time it takes a lot disk space away and it is really needed it does not function to good, and that is what read most of time. I have shut off system restore.
Has anyone here made the same observation that the function Open Folder no longer works? Is it perhaps a registry entry?
Thanks duaneB, I must have missed that post.
Fuelm@n, the link did not answer my question. I did not expereince any of the problems shown.
Can anybody help me, I thought WM9 or WM was prone to getting spyware, could somebody clarify this for me before I download WM10 as I'm currently using Realplayer and have found it better that WM9 which I found was slow compared to Realplayer.
Any information would be helpful.
if you uncheck all the items that lets wmp call home then you are alright glad you like real player beecause a lot of people dont.
i use wmp 10 and check for spyware daily and dont have any.
Cheers, Frebo for the information, have downloaded WM10 and have found it very good so far, and have since uninstalled Realplayer.
Found it hard to believe that a lot of people found realplayer a problem, the only thing I found with it was trying to copy music which was a pain, found WM better for doing this.
Anyway thanks for the info.:D
Just a thought for those who may not know. If you use WMPlayer and hit a site that needs Quicktime or RealMedia to play a music or video file they offer. You can get QuickTime and Real alternatives here:
http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm
Scroll down a' bit to find them.
They will install and use the good ol' Win Media Player 6.4 to play the files...
Sounds like Microsoft is already getting ready to drop support for 98SE, ME, and 2000 by not making media player 10 available for those operating systems! I'm probably stating the obvious though.
Longhorn isn't due out untill 2007 and Support is due to expire that year for XP too.
Wow the lack of support is really going to suck. Linux is looking better and better all the time!
Product support has been extended for many MS products JAL. It's 2011 for WinXP now, and 2010 for Win2000:

As far as I know the Internet Explorer version with the popup blocker is only available with XP also. Is that not true?Quote:

It is true, since its a component of SP2.
Frebo: how do you uncheck items to prevent WMA 10 from calling home????
Thanks.
paul3,,look in the 'tools' menu on various tabs and take the default checks out...
