This is great! I've heard about a lot of games I've never tried before and some I'm very interested in. Hidden & Dangerous 2 sounds very intreaguing. I just read a review of it in PC Gamer magazine this month. They gave it an 80% which is really high for PC Gamer.
I've thought of a few more that no one has mentioned, or that have been mentioned but I just have to say why I like them.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert and Red Alert: The Aftermath
If you've never played this RTS game, you have to try it. It's an older one by Westwood Studios so the graphics may be a little dated, but it's great fun. I always liked playing other people online or over a LAN and sending a huge squad of tanks from one direction, then while they're fighting them off sending another squad from the other side. Nukes were always fun to pummel the opponent's base. These games have spawned newer ones Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 and it's expansion pack Yuri's Revenge and Command & Conquer: Generals and even a FPS Command & Conquer: Renegade. Amazingly enough you can get a bunch of these in one pack for an extremely cheap price at Amazon.com, check it out here.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 & 2
This was always an enjoyable game. I can remember feeling a little bit of guilty pleasure in making roller coasters that were purposefully high in G-force rating just to make the park patrons throw up. The game is very detailed as far as a micro-management sim goes, all the way down to being able to see what each of your park patron's thoughts are. Building rollercoasters yourself has to be the most enjoyable part of the game, and trying to find that perfect balance in enjoyment and thrill is a great challenge. If you haven't played either of these games before, I'd encourage you to check them out.
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
This game has a few aggravating qualities to it, but all-in-all a great concept. It blends sneaking and runnin'-&-gunnin' quite well. You can take someone out from behind silently and then take their clothes and walk around like you were one of the bad guys. This is an amazing concept and one that a few other games have tried (which none have pulled off really well, yet). The biggest complaint I suppose is that the enimies will recognize you're not one of them if you get within about 20 feet of them, so that kind of squashes any sense of camflauge by using their clothes. Still, there's a ton of weapons to be used and you can go back to replay missions at will. The graphics are impressive and the story is pretty good as well.
I've heard a lot of good things about Black & White, but I still don't know exactly what it's all about. Could someone who's played it let me know what all the game entails? I know Black & White 2 is getting ready to come out, if it hasn't already, so I'm very interested in knowing more about both games.
I'm also excited that StarCraft: Ghost a 3rd/1st person shooter/adventure game is coming out soon. Since I've been a huge fan of the entire Starcraft series I'm eager to play this one (plus the game looks amazing). If you're familiar with Starcraft you play as a ghost from the Terrans (humans). The ghosts are female soldiers who are proficient in several fighting skills and styles and can become invisible. It's amazing to see some of the 2D creatures from the game come to life in extremely detailed 3D graphics (those Hydralisks looked creepy in just 2D, imagine what they'll look like standing 15 feet tall in front of you).
Anyway, keep up the great posts guys, I'm soaking up every word.
Any date set for Starcraft: Ghost? Sounds like it will be a great game.

Unreal Tournament - One of the few games I spent a lot of time playing online.
Ravenshield - Haven't played that much, but it's something we'll play at work after hours sometimes. I like the realism, and the insane number of weapons to choose from.
Half-Life - Great game. I'm pretty excited for HL 2, but I'm really afraid my vid card won't handle it. >sigh< time to spend some money...
Medal of Honor - The graphics and detail were so amazing on this game. And the sound of the tommy gun firing was perfect!
Robosport - this one goes WAY back, anyone remember it?? It's the first multi I ever played, it was on an appletalk network with three computers.
No One Lives Forever - the perfect mix of action, stealthy play, and humor.
the Space Quest series - Yeah, that's even older, but I had some great times with this one on my old Apple, then later on a friend's IBM.
Maze Craze - the oldest of my choices, but one of my favorite all time Atari cartridge games!

Normally you want to get rid of ghosts, you know exorcism and all that.
Also in computer forums you will often find advice to start in safe mode and go to device manager and 'get rid of any ghosts' ie devices that appear twice or devices you have removed from you system.

Well, I'm not quite sure of the official release date of Starcraft: Ghost right now, but games like Doom 3, Half-life 2, and Far Cry, that are DirectX 9 games which will take full advantage of DX9 and the next-gen video cards for full brilliance keep getting their release dates pushed back. A playable Doom 3 demo was presented at the 2002 E3 show. Right now they're scheduled to be released early next year, but may get pushed back again.

Personally, I don't mind game release dates being pushed back if it means fixing some bugs or polishing the look or gameplay. I'd rather the company take a few extra months to fine-tune the game instead of releasing it with lots of bugs and basically unfinished. Amazon.com claims Starcraft: Ghost will be available Feb. 18th, but I think it's still unclear if they're going to release a PC version. I really hope they do and don't make it solely a console game because it will look so much more amazing on the PC. They may release it to console first and then port it to the PC after some more work on it like Microsoft did with Halo.
It was pitched as a god game - you were a god, you controlled the lives of your citizens by feeding/killing/moving/breeding/casting spells/etc on them, trained your creature to do the same thing, and then went to war against other gods.Quote:

In practice, it turned out to be a resource-micro-management-intensive little-people game (think Populous or The Settlers) with some nice graphics and the creature thing. The creature training thing is cool, but unfortunately you spend too much time managing food and wood. Kinda disappointing after all the hype IMO.
It's the sort of game where I'd normally suggest you give the demo a good workout before buying it, but there's no playable demo. :rolleyes: All I can suggest is read lots of reviews instead I guess. And remember that there's micro-management. Lots of micro-management.

It's probably worth the $10. You'll get that much fun out of training a creature the first time, even if you get sick of it after a couple of weeks. :) And it'll give you an idea of whether B&W 2 will be your sort of game or not.

My husband and son (11), however -- they're into gaming big time. Started when Nick was about 5, and Mike bought him Twinsen's Odyssey. For a 5-year-old? A little strange. However, the two of them played that game together for about six months -- and finally won it!! Which Nick actually has done now a couple of times. Seems like a good thing to teach him to observe clues and plan strategy. Because sometimes now he beats his dad at chess.

I have some playable Space Invaders and Pac-Man screen savers that use the original ROMS so they look just like they did all those years ago - I'll find the links.
I've got Relentless or Little Big Adventure - the first of Twinsens Adventures I thought it was pretty cool at the time it came out although I never made it through it. My 4 year old might like to play it - hmm.
I forgot to mention the You Don't Know Jack games. Not bad, except nobody wants to play with me because i read too fast. :(

Tried the free downloadable game Hidden and Dangerous and was very disappointed. Looks fun until the game actually starts. Poor game play and movement. OK, its an old game (relatively), I have a feeling number 2 will be good.
I was at Best Buy yesterday and I decided to go look at some games.....I saw that Neverwinter Nights Game, looked cool. I saw Outlaw Golf, it looks cool....Anyone play it yet or can tell me if it is any good? Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic was there, Terminator 3 Game was there and Simpsons Hit and Run.....
These games all looked like fun to me, anyone have any experience with these games?
Ive heard Simpsons H+R is pretty much GTA with the Simpsons trademark. "It's the best simpsons game ever," yeah, because all the others sucked. I heard its a pretty good game anyway

Acually I did like a lot of the other simpson games for NES and SNES. They were always hard games.
I bought Simpsons Hit and Run a couple of days ago, from what ive played on so far i think its great.

ah, yes. That game took tens of dollars away from me back in the day. Did the ever port that to a system? (probably a NES or SNES)
I don't think they ever released that one to NES or anything like that....
I suspect you could find it as a ROM with an Arcade Emulator if such a thing is out there. Although I am sure that is illegal.
If I could find that game on SNES or something that I could play it on, I think I would buy it...

Yeah, i dont think that patucilar arcade game made it on to the consoles.
Hit and Run does have a slight GTA feel to it, but instead, when you run over someone in H&R they bounce back up with a comical comment, and when you run over someone in GTA then, although comical, they dont bounce back up:D
Bought Mafia at a pretty cheap price. Installed and tried it out. It has its similarities to GTA, where you drive around, doing different missions. The annoying thing is that the game takes place in the '30's and the cars are old and slow. There is a bit too much driving in the game, which is quite annoying, but the missions are fun.
Just thought about it, why not start an area of VDR for game reviews? BJ? What do you say?

As to Jeopardy, I'm rather surprised they don't have a UK version or something. We should let Sony know . . . There would be a market, I am sure.
Ever play Trivial Pursuit? (offline or, actually, I guess they have a computer version, which I wasn't too excited about) I know they have plenty of editions of that, seems like they would have country-specific ones (at least some topic cards anyway). It is, of course, a lot like Jeopardy.
I have Revenge of Arcade, where I do love to play Ms. Pac-Man.
Say, another game question. Actually, a pinball question. But if they had this game as a CD, I'd sure buy it. My spouse and I, before we had a kid, used to go to the Jersey Shore, and at this laundromat (believe it or not) on Long Beach Island, they had tons of pinball machines and one particular machine we loved. It was a game called Carnival by Bally (which may have been absorbed by someone). It had lots of different kind of actions and scores you could get, and different moves. Once we got good at it we used to go back there anytime we went to the Shore. Seemed like just this particular machine was very user-friendly or something. We tried it at other venues, with a bit less success.
Anyhow, I don't see the machine around arcades anymore. I wonder if anyone is familiar with 1. where I could look online to possibly find it or 2. whether there is now a CD version, and where is it hiding, since I think Bally does not exist anymore (maybe not even as a casino, I forget).

That really stinks if they would require keys for games, but I think that it would be enough of a hassle for people that they wouldn't buy the games that had that and eventually the companies would realize they would lose money from doing that.
Someone mentioned the Mafia game and that was another one I really enjoyed. I thought it was very realistic unlike a lot of the GTA-style games out there. I really enjoyed its authentic feel and the diversity of the missions. Plus it had a great story.

My list of favourite games and my reasons for it are as follows :cool:

The actual game itself borrows a lot from Saving Private Ryan, but succeeded in making you feel like part of an epic experience. The third expansion Breakthrough didn't offer any huge improvements, but just having more missions to play is always enjoyable with this game."
Call of Duty: Great game for first person shooter. Seems like a better improvement to Medal of Honor. Basicly you are playing two story lines, you are a Paratrooper in the USA forces and a Soviet soldier. Both are great campaigns and really thoroughly enjoyed it :D The experience of the sound effects and the graphics of the game looked very realistic. However the missions on both campaigns were a mixture. For the US, it started off basic then got harder as it went along. While the Soviets, with the first mission on Stalingrad (what a mission! :cool:) I couldn't believe how tough it was but as you go along all the way to Berlin, well enough is said, it got a lot more challenging. No doubt, the Germans were desperate enough to through everything they've got.
When Westwood first released Command and Conquer back around 1990 or 1995 (somewhere there). I thought it was awesome. When the next generation of Command & Conquer came out, referring to Red Alert & its expansion packs, I thought it was great as well. As graphics improved, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 was nicely improved and enjoyed the movie clips. The expansion for RA2, Yuri's Revenge was nicely done as well :cool: Recently Command and Conquer General was released using 3D graphics, loved the improvements they made to it. Thought it was worthwhile getting. Also I bought the expansion of Generals which is Zero Hour and I thought it was worth it :D
I like Blizzard Entertainment as well...
Starcraft, has been out for a while. They have included its expansion pack, Brood Wars, with the deluxe edition which I thought was worth getting. The storyline is good and it's a great game as it is today. I do recall having a lot of fun with my mates over a network and there are all kinds of mods for it. The single player missions were enjoyable and the cutscenes were worthy of Hollywood. I agree with people's comments "It's a great RTS game even though it's only 2D. If you haven't played it before, it's a great buy." I do hope sometime in the future, Blizzard will decide making StarCraft 2 to make those StarCraft fans continue the seque and find out what happens to the end of Kerrigan's wrath.
Another good game from blizzard I like to include is Diablo and its sequel Diablo II, very interesting game and was well thought out. You can choose your character, where you will go forth and defeat the evil darkness. Thought it was developed on my part and enjoyed it.
My favourite of Blizzard's games would be is the Warcraft series, and my favourite for this is Warcraft III and its expansion pack, Frozen Throne. I thought it was well thought out and the storyline was well done. The race sounded like the Lord of the Rings in a sence but I know its different. However I will say I enjoyed it and will admit, I still want the WarCraft series to continue because I want to get the privellege of the forces of light go ahead and stop Arthas (who is now in posession of the Lich king), thought it will be another opportunity to buy another Warcraft game :D
Lucasarts, much as I'm a Star Wars fanatic. I would say the Jedi Knight series got me going. Then Jedi Outcast and Academy got me more interested as well :cool: The new Jedi game Knight's of the Old Republic really had me going, what a battle!!! You've got to get it, as I'm playing the game at the moment I thought it was very improved and its a mixture of RPG and stragety game. I would like to express to LucasArts, thank you for releasing this game and I really enjoyed it :D
Lord of the Rings, War of the Ring. Played the demo of it and I thought it was awesome.
I have MAFIA, but when i got it i only played it once, because i had another game that i bought so i was playing that more.
I think that its time to install it again and give it another bash, sounds like a good game.

There are so many i don't really know where to start, i don't usually play a game in single player again after i've completed it, but a few on-line games i get addicted to and used to play quite regular when not playing with the OS or something... The only types of game i play are 1st/3rd Person Shooters (mainly army/realistic types), racing, football (FiFa Series) and other stunt/trick related games like tony hawk & Motocross madness 2... Don't like God mode (RTS/RPG) games at all, never play them...
Sometimes a bit of the XP Backgammon on-line is cool tho :)
Medal of Honor, as a single player game i like the entire series, it's one of the few single player games i actually manage to complete, on-line is exelent too and i've spent many hours up late on that one... i think i still prefer the original Allied Assault for on-line tho, the objective modes are cool... overall, a great games series... (even the original on the PS1 was very cool for it's day).
Call of Duty (the new medal of Honor:)) is also very nice and so far seems to be an improvement on MOH, on-line is also like MOH and very good too... I haven't got very far in the single player game yet since i usually tend to play it on-line when i have the urge... but i shall get back to it :)
Vietcong is another similar one i like, mainly on-line, but i haven't played it for along time now...
Hitman 2 & Splinter Cell are cool games too, i still play both now n then (been ~ a year now, lol)... i quite like the stealthiness and different ways of completing the objectives, graphics are very nice too.
Enter the Matrix is also another favorite, it does get rather hard at some points but a great game, especially for a Matrix fan like me :D
Max Payne 2 i find is just perfect in every way, defiantly my favorite game of the year, graphics are amazing at full details even on my aging PC, nice touches like the interaction with objects in the game, i was very impressed and it's another rare one i also managed to get to the end of... very good game, so much so i'm even going through it again on the hardest difficulty (gotta love the quick load/save buttons tho, they are my friends):).
There are a lot more shooters i like the look of, but most tend to be a bit difficult and i usually give up, uninstall and move onto the next, then other popular ones like UT2003/U2 just don't seem to hold my attention for long, they look good but i find them too much of the same ol' thing, i'm not really into shootin' monsters very much...
An exelent older game i used to play all the time on-line was Kingpin, yup another FPShooter, i never completed the single player missions tho, too difficult, but on-line it more than made up for it, it was and still is quite original, i've still not seen anything that compares to it's 'bagman' modes on-line and also with the games quite humorous foul language (18 rated) it was kinda different, it would be nice to see a Kingpin 2 if they make it, that would be sweet, graphics are a bit dated now (similar to Quake2 or half-life era), it runs with like ~200FPS+ on recent hardware :) now that's one old game with a lot of memories and late nights on-line.
Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City are cool too, Mafia is another similar (more realistic) game i enjoyed... Tony Hawks 3 and 4 are also very enjoyable and worth a mention too... Motocross Madness 2 is getting a little dated now, but was brilliant in it's day, online rocked too.
As for racing, Need for speed - Porche Unleashed was good in it's day, was especially good for on-line too, but the new NFS Underground i find is even better, a nicely done arcade style pick up and play handling, all-round the best PC racer i've played so far i think...
Then there's Mercedes World Racing, a game with the most "real" driving physics i've played, but the game its-self is ruined due to the dumb AI, but it's good fun to just aimlessly cruse around on my own getting some sweet over-steer :D If the Handling of that Mercedes game was adopted for more PC racing games there would be some cool stuff about, maybe even something to beat the PS2's Gran Turismo...
The recent 'Sierra' Nascar series of games have been quite good too, quite realistic for a game and requires a lot of concentration, a lot of fun tho...
There's probably a few more i forgot, but i usually find most racing games suck big time, just not enough back end action for my liking, hehe... (My real car is ofcourse RWD, there's not much i like better than a good bit of oversteer with some oppisite lock :D)
I could go on, and on, and on, there's just so many... :D but i mentioned some that over the years which i've probably spent the most time playing and some i still play now n then to try and get a bit further...

Yep, i like tony harwks 3, and also Enter The Matrix, but as you said the levels can be hard, and you have to have alot of patience. other wise you might find you self needing another monitor (or is that just me?):D

Mind you back in around 1989, my Dad had a Tandy 1000 or the 386. I used to play all the old DOS games. Boy, were those the days, lol.
Anyway, in the past, I have been building up computers from scrath since I was 12 years old. Now I'm 20, considering I'm still studying and still working my way through the IT career. I still enjoy my career with no hesitation. I tell you one thing, I do plan to make my own operating system one day :D
And I'll be planning to make more computer games as well... but only time would tell :cool: Sooner or later, time will tell :D
