Just a thought...
Could there be no power in the plug at the back that I plugged into it?
Or could there be not enough power?
And if so, how can I remedy that?

Another mystery solved. Thanks for the links Mosaic, Max, and greengoose.

Bet you know more about that thing than you everthought you needed to know.
Belarc laid it out for you, right.

Put it as slave to c:
I assume you mean slave on the c drive ribbon? Is this correct, you want it as you D drive?
Personnely, I disconnect my C drive,
I would fdisk it, partition it if over 8GB, format it, plug the c drive back in, boot ,go into Bios set for auto detect, save and exit. and try to boot up.
And for faster disk to disk writing I would make it the slave on the other ribbon.

My c drive is 3gb, my second hd is only 130mb. I've since been speaking to a friend who says the jumpers could be set wrong. Well could they? Would they cause the probs?

Well, just so you know, Your writing from one harddisk to the other will be at a little less than half speed Why, I suggested on the other ribbon.

Is there a chance that I may be able to get the literature I need to set the jumpers over the www?
Ok then, point taken. I was just going with what the man in the shop told me. I will plug the other ribbon into it. I assume this wont affect the cdrom?
and on that note I'm going to bed as it is 00:30 on this side of the Atlantic. Night-Night

Max, I still haven't gotten a case yet. Even though I did see that it matches up to the MB in the Emachine, which means it should work in another case. I haven't told her yet. So I will wait and see what I decide to do....lol
Train, the info from the Smbios does a whole lot the same thing, just not as quick and easy. But with following Mosaics instructions on using it, I got it fine.... Thanks again for everyones help with this chase of MB's......

Max, i'll tell you the truth. I would not lie to her. I have told her that I dont know if it will fit or not. So she doesn't know what to expect. I also told her that if I got the new case, and the HP guts wont fit, then I am going to build. So I basically have to try the HP first. After all, like I said before, it isn't a bad PC.....

Dodge, so you keep it for back up and other sundry things. An Inwin S500 case goes for $47.00 I believe. Been reading your posts and you really can go a couple of different ways and still keep cost down. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Hi all,
I'm going to buy a new pc within the next 2 months. I don't know what to get, but I want something seriously kickass. Of course once I have it it's going to be modded to the max.
Any thoughts would be good
cheers

If it aint broke... Fix it till it is
Suggest putting one together, two reasons, you know what is in there and you can fix it.
Not hard either. I built jr here and QOH built her's here in Operation Delta also.
P4's at present are slow. In fact a Duron 800 is faster, https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ They may need to rewrite the programs for it.
What do you do, that will kinda dictate what you want to buy.
Welcome and ask you questions, if you get questions back, answer them and we will try to get you pointed in the right direction.
Are you a gamer, run the internet, 3D modeler, or something I missed. Or do you just want bragging rights.
See, I am having to guess.

I'll be doing allot of online gaming, 3d graphics work and programming on it.
Yeah I was thinking of either PIII or AMD Athlon or Duron.
Thanks

I agree completely - put one together yourself. It's not that hard once you start, you get to choose the hardware yourself and can build something that fits your budget. AND you don't get a machine overloaded with SW you never gonna use anyway.
Finally (and most important in my opinion), you get to learn the inside of you machine pretty well once you get it running, growing a little taller yourself..!

Morning All, Train, Looks like there's some work to do. For those of you that are serious about building, I would suggest looking over the Operation Delta Threads to get a feel for what's ahead, then your list of components and any question that comes up be sure to ask. Do not let it go. Unanswered questions in your mind will tend to stymie a person. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I would suggest the 800 to 1 GB range, and 1 step off the top for motherboard as the new on the block tend to have problems and this way we do not have to fight them.
ASUS A7V ATA100
Duron 800
InWin S500 tower with 300Watt ps
WD 30GB 7200Rpm ata100 harddrive
The hardest part is to convince yourself you can do it. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Train,
Been playing around with the Anfy JAVA thingy. Do you know any way to remove the following function:
When I creat an image and place it on my website, if a visitor clicks on the image, there is a small pop-up asking if the person wants to go to the Anfy homepage. Not a major problem, but if it is easily removed I would like to do it. I don't know JAVA so keep it simple. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Is it perhaps one of the parameter doo-hickies that show up right before you save all files? Thanks.
EDIT: OOPS...Problem already taken care of. See my post below.

Thanks goose, but one step at a time. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I'm still trying to teach myself HTML. Using a WYSIWYG editor now. After I get a handle on it, I just might be looking you up for some links. I like this little ANFY program with it's wizard-style interface. Just want to "tweak" it a little...hehe https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I crash...therefore I am.
Just wanted to let you all know. After all the worries and bugging you all. I got my PC going. I decided not to wait to get one through the mail from the Inet. So I called around and noone had the Inwin S500 cases or anything close. So I finally go a case that is what I wanted.
3-5.5 drives,,, 3-3.5 drives,, 250W ATX PS (Standard at that) no special order crap like before.. Nice case for $49.99.. Not bad I dont think..
Now as I can I am going to get all the stuff I need to build an Awsome PC. Thanks Everyone for your help. Especially with the Mother Board.....

That's good, Dodge. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ When you are ready to build, we'll be here. Or, if you wish, take a journey into the Cybertombs and go back...back....back into the Operation Delta threads and seek ye the infamous Queen_Of_Hearts saga, "The Night We Created a Monster: The Transformation of Q_O_H from a Lowly End-user to 'POWER LADY'!
Hi folks https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Train,
You can ignore my above question on the ANFY thing. Queen of Hearts wandered over to my site and found the offending lines of code for me. I'm going to tinker with it the next time I update the site. Thanks anyway. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Still love that little program. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Maybe I'll link the image to VDR...hehe.
------------------
I crash...therefore I am.
Max, I must have missed that one. What program is it you are talking about.
I have been reading some of the old Delta threads, cant find many. But, when I get ready to build I will look again.
The only two things I need now is a new Floppy drive and new ribbon for it. The drive doesn't have a front on it. It was made for that front cover on the HP, and now it sticks out like a sore thumb. And the ribbon was to short to fit in this new case. So no A: drive for now...

Dodge,
It's neat little JAVA maker with a wizard interface so you don't have to actually know what you are doing to make things.

Just used it to make a new page for my hometown website that I have.

I crash...therefore I am.
Hi folks,
Still having problems installing the backup drive into my system.
I've set to make it slave on the cd ribbon, like was said, however, the pc still tries to boot from it rather than the original IDE device. I went into the BIOS to see if the pc had put it into the master, but it couldnt even find it. The only IDE device it found was the original one. So can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've set the jumper on the new drive to slave and I made sure the jumper on the first drive is set to master. It is. I dont know what to do next. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks folks.

Thanks Mosaic. It all sounds a bit above my knowledge now. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ I think that I'm going to get my friend to look at it. He upgrades PC's in his spare time. Hopefully he will be able to fix it. Meanwhile I shall disconnect the ribbon and wait till he comes back off holiday. I'm new to this computer building/modding lark so I think this would be best rather than me knackering up my system.
Thanks for the help folks.
