Evenin'
I just implemented the reg changes. I believe it is faster !
Thanks bistro.
hey...remember that deal where you told me how to add to the Send To menu ? I have been digging for it (even did a search)and have not found it yet. How did we do that to add the Virus scan to it?
-
With Norton AV, the program automatically puts an option into the r-click menu to scan the file. If you want to put any program into the Send To, just click and drag it to Windows\Send To; elect to copy or make a shortcut. Then right click on it and rename to whatever you want (ie. get rid of the "Shortcut To").

Thanks https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I did a Find files on "send to" and you would not believe how many files popped up! I'll go look in Windows.
When I right click on the folder, I do see Innoculate in the list above the Send to part of the menu along with Add to zip and Zip and email. I wonder what happens if I click on it? Fixing to find out. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
-
That did it! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ It also scans if I click on the Innoculate part of that menu.
But there is no choice to do that when you Right click on My Documents. What about those gifs I save to there ? Should those be scanned too ?
-
Images generally do not carry viruses (unless they are actually *.gif.vbs, *.jpg.vbs, etc. as stated before). Scan everything on the system once; then you can set the AV to scan program files only, etc. A good habit to get into is to set your Windows download to default to a "Hold" directory, then scan what you downloaded before executing it. You can also set most AV's to scan all files as they download (scans it in Temp, then copies to the directory you choose). My personal preference is the former.

Must have a dialup. A little slower than cable. Why, I had to download at 147K last night. 2K to 147K, I think we are slowing her up is what she trying to say.

Hope this finds you feeling much better.

I think it is safe to say that for the first year of computing, it is a mental overload.
Put a hp cd-rw in a Inwin A500 case today.
The motherboard [BE6-II] is setup like ours.
The harddrive was hooked to the ATA66, so I hooked the cd-rw as master on the 2nd IDE. Used it to install the programs, and cut a data cd. One happy owner he is.
the A500 is a year old and I found that the S500 is easier to work with. The plastic cover on our front is much easier to deal with. Our bracket for the harddisk comes out,
Small things but a lot easier to work with.

That's the way I'm doing it, in a folder I made called Downloads. But before I would open the AV and navigate to the Download folder or Outlook Express's Inbox (sort of a pain)then hit Go. This is much easier. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I made a shortcut to the desktop to the folder before my download folder. I right click the download folder and select Inoculate and let it do its thing.
For me it sure beats navigating.

Ohhh! No wonder. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Thanks, Mosaic.
Are you all back together now or still got stuff to install ?
Mercy says hi to Chucky https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I dreaded leaving him this weekend, but he did fine all by himself. (I was the same way with my firstborn. Nursed her 'till she was two!)
Train, it is easier this way for sure.

greengoose, https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Cray ? as in Seymour ?
Wonder what brand coffee pot is compatible with our Abit motherboard ? ...More research. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Seymour Cray is close---founder of the series of Cray super-computers. I think the Cray 4 was capable of one trillion mathematical equations per minute. Talk about number-crunching....
How about an experiment? Do a 3dMark2000 benchmark test, this time choosing the Default Test. The image will come up a little canted to the right...don't worry about it. Should the test hang, just reset the system, then choose the 800x600x16-bit test. When done, note down the score (Be sure to close any running programs first down in the Systray).
Next, go HERE and download the Intel PCI Bridge Fix &
INF Updater Win 95/98 (version PV2.2). Install the drivers (takes just a second), reboot. When Windows comes back in, it'll indicate that it's finding allllllll kinds of "new hardware"---just let it do it's thing----don't panic. As soon as it's done, go to msconfig and make sure the autoexec.bat and config.sys are still set NOT to run (they have those SB 16 Emulator lines that you don't need).
Then run the 3Dmark2000 benchmark again--same settings as the previous test. Take note of the score. Post the "before and after" here.
You have your mission..... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Ok first of all the last time I did the test after doing the NVMax thing I think I shut it down along with everything else in the systray (yeah ....I know >>YOU IDIOT !) before runnung the test.
So this time before getting the Intel business it was >>>5431 (with NVMax running https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
After the new Intel stuff it was>>> 5414
-
OK, then...that mobo probably had the latest drivers. Not so much a diff in scores there-pretty normal fluctuation.
-
But... evidently the NVMax made a huge difference. I think it was 4515 on the original test.
