Have TA download from HERE. Select 'CD-ROMs' from the list at the top and the file name is "Ide158.exe". It's only 65.7 kb. Just click on it when you have it on your hard drive--probably a self-extracting file, so you might have to go into Device Manager, highlight the CD-ROM, Properties>change driver, blah diddy blah blah...you know the deal https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Need that monitor driver too. Is it installed? Or does Device Manager still say Unknown Monitor under...guess what? "Monitor"?
More adjustments...(oh,ok...they're "tweaks"):
Control Panel>System: drag and drop and make a shortcut to this to your desktop--will save time. Go into Device Manager >Ports.
For each Communication Port, do the following: Properties>Port Settings Tab>scroll the highest setting in the "bits per second", then go to Advanced (below) and shove those notches all the way up. CHECK "Use FIFO buffers". Do this for all Com's showing EXCEPT the printer port.

Sorry, but I'm seeing these as I go...
Some time savers when setting up a new system:
Right-click on the Desktop>select New>Shortcut. Browse to Windows\System and look for a file called msconfig.exe. Click on it--will make a shortcut to that on the desktop. Right-click on the icon and rename it to just "Msconfig" or "Startup Files". There, now you can access those quickly.
Using the same procedure, browse the Windows folder for "Control.exe"--make the shortcut.
R-click and rename it "Control Panel"--now you won't have to find it through the Start Menu.
If you transfer all those icons I sent you to a folder under C: called....yep,...Icons, then you can r-click on any of those desktop icons and change them to something more eye-pleasing.
Go to Programs under Start Menu and find Windows Explorer. Click and drag it to the desktop and make a shortcut out it. Quick access.
Go to Control Panel>System. Drag that icon to the desktop and make a shortcut out of it--rename to get rid of "Shortcut to". EDIT: Already did this one from above post, eh? well....DO IT AGAIN!...just kidding...
Now when you get around to installing TweakUI (on the sent CD), it'll have a setting whereby you can get rid of that annoying little arrow on the shortcuts.
Still thinkin'...will post tweaks as I see 'em....trick or tweak?

As soon as we get that CD-ROM working, will post a link for a GeForce2 tweak program that'll speed up that video card considerably. Call this "an exciting preview".... https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

I have the floppy and tried to get the driver wizard thingy to see it but it doesn't seem to be able to read it.
I chose the cdROM in the device manager, then properties then update driver, and have disk and chose a and all it shows is *.inf but it just sits there when I click ok.
It says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware.

SOrry for interrupting again, but i noticed sometime during this installation someone mentioned a scsi adapter or something like that. I was just curious if your putting in IDE (ATA/Atapi) or SCSI HD and Cdrom? Thanks for the info.

Looking around for you--hang in there....may be the wonrg...rong...rwogn...incorrect driver.

Been rereading this and the last two OpDe's before and one thing sure stands out. The information is better than a book or manual because of its real time nature and the requirement for a person having another person understand the direction given and vice versa, the questions asked. A lot of "little stuff" was covered not found in any book.
Did not think of it untill now Oueen of Hearts, but did you by chance take any pictures as you were building?

Only of the empty case...but I can take it apart and go backwards iffin you want? https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

Want you to try this: Go to Device Manager, highlight the CD-ROM it has listed>Properties>Driver Tab. Select Update Driver>Display a list..>Show all hardware. Scroll down to Mitsumi and select plain ole' CD-ROM--if a warning comes up, ignore it. Reboot and check Device manager again for any conflict. Worth a shot. Haven't found an updated driver yet.

Betcha Bistro faints dead away when he sees the phrase "go backwards". https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
