I do not feel comfortable hearing you say that problems may arise after I do this prodecure you describe. What sort of problems might they be?

I deleted the .dat file from my registry. Was that a bad thing?
Do you think it might help if it wasn't a bad thing?
To jonking:
I copied the URL of the thread into IE and found that the script does not scroll off the
page. I was using Netscape when this problem arose because that is what I use for my email.

It was on my desktop again. I had been nowhere except here at this forum.

I am sorry about all these seperate messages, guys, but I am really frustratred and things keep occurring to me after I have posted.
One less question, Mach2.
I don't see "preview email" in my PREFERENCES.
Perhaps this is because I use netscape email and not Outlook?

I use Netscape Messenger not Outlook.
Does this make a difference?

When you search the registry for this file and you find it, look at the bottom of the open window and it will tell you the path (location in the registry) of this file.
For Example: hkey_current_user\software
Post this info as it would help to know where you found this file in the registry.
Also when you searched and found the first reference to the file in the registry, you should then hit the F3 key to continue searching the registry until you get a message saying search complete. Post all the paths you find with this file listed in them.

Netscape keeps a record of your email even if you delete to Trash and then empty Trash. You need to compact the folders. I don't have Netscape so I can't recall how to do this.

I went into that link that you suggested as a follow up to EZs post. I went into FIND and found bpboh.dll. I tried to delete it. I got an error message telling me that it could not be deleted and to make sure that the disk was not full or write protected. It was listed as an application extension. This sounded to me like it might be the thing that was powering the .dat file. Admittedly, I don't know enough about computers to know this for sure. But when I got off the internet and then tried to delete bpboh.dll then I could.
I did a complete shutdown after that and held my breath.
When I started back up, the computer came back on, my internet connection still works, my email still works and I was able to get back to this post.
The .dat file is not on my desktop at the moment. I have this post bookmarked.
If the .dat file comes back I will come back here and post again.

PS. I found two instances of bpboh.dll in my registry. I deleted them both.
Just out of curiosity, what does .dll mean?

Well it only mentioned two things. Printer and scanner. I don't have a scanner connected.
I tried my printer to see if it still works and it does so that means the .dll file in question being deleted did not effect my printer's operation.
I wonder if this particular file is being used to actuate the .dat file? It seems possible from the description given in the link I read. I hope so. It's so aggravating
not knowing for sure.
But in any case, the .dat file hasn't come back.
I will post again if it does.
