I'm with 'Beep', I was having a shocker with my connection speeds (33600) so I had my gain ramped up on the line which helped. But the most improvement was when I changed my modem to a hardware, now I'm at 49333 which is OK for dial up I reckon.

Is this the original modem...or did you add this one, reason is... this is the original modem, my computer was built by a home builder and as I understand it now has a v90 56 k modem

My modem is firmly attached to the tower by screws, so guess this is what you are asking? Sorry if I misunderstand your question/answer
The reason I told you about End it all is, when you have alot of programs running in the background, it takes up resources. Resources is one thing you need to get d/l speed. billy1

Thanks billy, I did go there, could not find that particular program after searching archives for awhile, maybe I did not stay with it long enough, I will try again, thanks.....the carp
Right under their d/l of the day there is another link. Something like more d/l's or something like that just hit that one and it will get you there. billy1
P.S. there is a cronological order link. Do that one. That's after you go to the first link. All d/l accel. did to me was slow me down.
