Exactly right, it was just what I did to correct mine, and I wasn't even trying to do it, it just happened. The proper drivers for you M/B may do the trick, whatever they may be..

My HDDs listed as type 46 or 47 after I setup using 'setup /p j'. Yes, it forces ACPI to work if there's a chance. Shouldn't remove the ability to check DMA boxes on the disk drive settings in Device Mgr. Now, I got the HDD to specify their correct model #s by installing the most recent Busmaster and HDD drivers. Happened to be an ASUS board with ALi Chipset, and the ALi Driver made the HDDs run better (access faster) and improved everything. Most interesting was the reduction in CPU usage shown by the Disk Transfer test and Access times by Winbench after getting the ALi drivers on the Board.
the numbers were all below 1%, previously much higher. Only thing you have to watch for is if this kills your ACPI setup. It can knock it back to APM. Good Luck.
Don't know if it would help in this case, but I've had good luck with Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools.

On the other hand...that is, if you have another hand.
Hi all, IT WORKED!!! https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ Phheeewww! YeeHaaaa!!!
Heres the report of what i tried in order, for those that are interested:
First i tried the LINK from Rog but didn't notice any changes and unfortunatly did NOT sort the DMA prob.
Secondly i tried the LINK from IMM... seemed to install OK as u described but it disabled DMA on both my drives (seemed promising) however when i re-enabled them it still had the same problem with non DMA on the Slave Drive.
Finally i tried IMM's last LINK to "UnderClock" the HDD to UDMA-33 and IT WORKED!!! Nice work IMM, I can't thank you enough!!!
Hopefully that will also sort out my original problems with Lost Fragments... MS-DOS Compatibility Mode... and Boot-Failiers in THIS THREAD, Fingers Crossed!
BTW: My HDD's are still shown as TYPE 46 in device manager, but i'm not worried about that really unless its easy to sort out! any ideas? does it matter?
Many Thanx to you all for finding the time & digging up the info for me, and for the use of your amazing tallents! it's Greatly Appreciated!
Take it easy m8s! My kindest Regards https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

With a good backup program u can UNDO (almost) all your mistakes & bad installs etc in Windows!
Type 46 is just fine. There are always several ways to go about these things. In one case you get the driver to try and figure out what's being reported to it (look for itself or behave in a fashion where it doesn't have to know) - in the other you set it so that it reports something that the bios or driver can understand. The bios update (if available) for DMA recognition (and probably max drive sizes) is still worth a look.
Glad you got it https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
As an aside - u would never have gotten the advice until I could guess FE and Award and Intel chipset and recent drive etc.
IMM as u probably read from my other thread in hardware the PC's running nice now... really i think i should "quit while i'm ahead" as they say... however...
...i found this link http://www.driverforum.com/bios3/455.html#followups which indicates that this http://www.ctlcorp.com/support/cb61x.htm would be the BIOS update to use
Seems right to me but i've never done it B4... what do u think? is it worth the risk?
if it helps my BIOS String is: 09/07/98-i440LX-ITE8679-CB61X-LXC-00

I looked at the numbers and decided it was Daewoo (can you confirm that?). The link you provided seems to agree with me but the second link for download is broken (no loss) though I'll look later and see if that outfit has an updated one.
To make my guess I went to Daewoo and think its this one http://www.dwt.co.kr/computer/suppor...dy.asp?num=312
which is a version later than your link offered anyway.
I guess I can't advise as to whether or not to flash (I really don't know your comfort level https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ )
Perhaps what I will suggest is that you practice with awdflash by making a backup of your current bios.
Make a bare boot floppy and get a more recent awdflash program than the download contains (one which has the /pn switch to avoid programming -if you need one email me) and use it to save yor current bios with "awdflash somethin.bin mysave.bin /pn /sy"
As I said I'll give it another look later.
The best CTLCorp link I could get gave a 6110 version
ftp://ftp.ctlcorp.com/public/BIOS%20...DAEWOO/Lxbios/
FWIW
Thanks,
I had plumb forgotten about the existence of this DMA-setting tool.
and to say I have used it on a few occasions (older mobo with newer drives)
must mean I am slipping.

Remember, there is always something we forgot to ask.
And, it's only FREE advice!
Kind regards, Jaak
you are right its a Daewoo... i am willing to experiment if u r quite sure that its the right 1 for my PC https://discussions.virtualdr.com/...don't worry i won't hold it against you if it goes wrong, hehe https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
i cant get my download link to work either but it made a good example... it was all i found, u must find secret sites https://discussions.virtualdr.com/, your link should be better anyway as its newer...
BTW: makes me more comfortable knowing i can save the old BIOS just incase!
1 other thing, when i flash the BIOS will i have to re-enter all the info into it again or will it remember?
Many thx, time for bed now, so i'll have to catch up tomorrow, Regards https://discussions.virtualdr.com/

When you flash it will be
"awdflash cb6112.bin mysave2.bin /py /sn /cd /cp /cc"
This will clear the dmi (cd) and the PnP data (cp) and the cmos (cc).
This will leave nothing that was set in the bios before! Write it all down first.
On the reboot following you should enter the bios and then LOAD the defaults. After that then set it back to what it was. (note some options may change from one version to the next)
Surface scan the floppy you'll use after you create it and perhaps clean the floppy drive first.
I've found it best to do the save and the flash as seperate operations on seperate floppy disks. (as always make sure that there is no config.sys or autoexec.bat files on these disks)
Good luck https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
i found this link http://www.tyan.com/support/html/flash_utilities.html with different versions of awdflash.exe tool
which version would i need 5.2, 6.03MOT or 8.10B
also looking at the switches u posted for backing up the old 1, would you have possibly meant /py /sn insted of /pn /sy? just wanna make sure as that was the switched i found on that link above.
really must go to bed this time, lol

In terms of backing it up the /pn means DON'T program it and the /sy means yes to save it and that's what I meant to do in terms of a save only (the instructions you saw were for programming it I guess).
For the programming run it's the other way around.
For your purposes awdflash 7.52C is a good choice (only because that is what I'm giving instructions for) and if you type "awdflash /?" at a command prompt it will show you the available parameters.
One other thing you might want to know is that the interrupt for Shift_PrtScr is in this bios - so if you have a dos capable printer (hardware fonts for the IBM graphics character set) then you can dump the bios screens to the printer by pressing Shift and PrtScr together. You may also have to hit eject on your printer if it's a sheet feeder such as an inkjet like mine rather than tractor feed.

Thx IMM, ive d'loaded the BIOS updates u provided and found AWDFLASH v7.52c which i shall use for both Saving and Flashing...
1 thing i did notice is that on the Post screen it says "Award Plug and Play BIOS Extention v1.0a" Does that make any difference?
I have succesfully saved the original BIOS on a floppy too, was easy enough, its just flashing i'm concerened about.
I've also made notes from your instructions just incase this page gets currupted...
----------------------------------------
I'm trying to weigh up the Pros and Cons of doing this... the dilema is...
Now i realise that this MOBO is only DMA/33 IDE compatible (and also the 66mhz RAM limit i allready knew about)... i don't think i'll be upgrading it anymore than what it is...
i've allready put in 256mb RAM, Voodoo3-2000, SB128, 20GB HDD and CD-RW...
Rather than upgrade it anymore with "overpowered bits" i think i'm gunna put back the 4mbGFX, 32mbRAM, 16bitSND & leave only the 3GB HDD in it... back to how i got it bacically https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ dread to think how slow it was https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
That way i can get a better MOBO/CPU/Case/Power etc that supports my UDMA66 HDD and 133mhz RAM and put the "best" components of my 2 PC's into it until i can afford better...
The new processor i want will definatly be another AMD Athlon slightly faster than my present 1 or more hopefully the 1400mhz for the difference in cost/performance, i just need to find out info about different MOBO's... i'm a complete newbie to MOBO/CPU specs n stuff, i have never built a PC b4 from scratch, but i think i'll enjoy it, it'll be a good learning experience hopefully https://discussions.virtualdr.com/...
I think that would be a worth doing as the prices seem quite low at the moment... i roughly worked it out and i can almost do this without spending a bean if i sell this Celeron box afterwards.
So bearing that in mind, I think u'll agree it might not be worth the risk Flashing incase it goes wrong... but i'm still contemplating it just for the hell of it, as at least its a cheap MOBO for the practice https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
BTW i tried printing the BIOS setup (Epson640) but there were spaces between all the letters, thus it was too wide for the page and was barely understandable, looks like i'll have to write it down if i decide to go for it...
Many thanx for your help, Regards https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
I don't know the Epson 640. If it's dip switch settable to emulate an IBM graphics printer or IBM proprinter you'll have to do it that way - the epson char set doesn't work well for bios's.
Is it worth it for you with those plans - probably not.
Me - I'm always doing it just to see what the other side of the hill looks like https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
