Ok, I should have used the word phono for the tape deck but I've been reconnecting the past few days so changed it. I said it right a few posts back.
The sound is much better using the PC function - which is where it usually has been. That's red & white going into PC.
Choices are phono, game, PC, iPod and tuner. It sounds best on PC.
The tape deck did not come with this system and that's all that is connected to it.
Ok.. so you have limited choices. The tape deck and PC can ONLY be plugged into the PC input. You tried the game audio in and that did not work. So now you either experiment with buying a bluetooth setup (which I would hesitate doing esp since it has to travel to another room) or also buy a splitter type of device that you can manually switch between PC and tape deck for the input to the Sony.

which can be used as a two in, one out stereo device. Note that you'd still need the 3.5 to rca stereo adapter unless you could find a splitter with a stereo RCA and a stereo 3.5 input to a stereo RCA output but that's getting a little esoteric.
So I would still need a wire from the laptop to this splitter type of device? And that's where I would need the adapter you showed.
Switching between pc and tape deck is not a problem.
This all started when I put some music cds into WMA files on to the laptop. Was hoping to get a better sound than Windows media player puts out.

Yes.
I don't understand that. Where is that windows media player you're referring to here? The laptop would, by default, use windows media player to play the WMA files unless you installed another player but even doing that would not likely change audio quality.. only interface and bells and whistles.Quote:

Well, they will play on the newer laptop with Windows media player.
I have an older laptop that still has a CD drive so I used that along with a program called "Power 2Go" and that worked fine to copy the music cds.
Then I put them on a flash drive and put them on the newer laptop, that doesn't have a CD drive, of course.
So they will play on either laptop as is. I just would miss the sound quality of the Sony speakers.
Ok. So now you just need to decide if you want to buy and run the cabling (and adapter) from the PC in one room to the Sony player in the other.

I've read that music CDS are basically obsolete these days.
Also seems it's hard to buy a decent stereo system anymore, so I'm trying to save what I have.
