Trying to follow the instructions to create a Boot flash drive and the instructions says to
Browse to your ubcd5.iso file, and click Open
I don't know what a ubcd5.io. I assume it is that Ultimate Boot CD, but where? If i go to the USB flash drive I just inserted, I don't have any file. Is that the source file? If so, where do I look?
Edit: oh, I do have to follow the instructions from post 1 also!! I was concentrating on #2.
An .iso file is an image of a CD or DVD. That's the source file you'd use to create a bootable disc or flash drive.
So far, I ran the diagnostic test on both of my WD drives:
- Drive 1 came up clean on both the short and long test
- Drive 2 came up clean on the short test but because of how long it takes, I will run the long test later.
Now, I also downloaded the Kingston SSD Manager. When I start it, what am I looking for? There is a Health overview and it shows that everything is fine. Is that all it takes to run a diagnostic test on it?

Sounds like the Kingston SSD is ok. You could also try CrystalDiskInfo.

Did you also check Event Viewer for errors?
No, I don't typically check Event Viewer for errors because (1) I didn't know about it and (2) now that I look at it, I don't understand anything.
Event Viewer is the standard place to check when you have system errors.

You should still finish up the WD diags. You might also want to run a memory test (UBCD5 post#3)
Looking at the System in Event Viewer, it shows "The device, \Device\Harddisk3\DR3, has a bad block." (I am not sure what HD that is!) I guess i'll have to finish the disk check for the other disk to see if it is that last disk, or if nothing shows.
Yup. Definitely run the HD scan on that last drive.
The full scan of the last drive came up with no error.
Hmm. You could still try running chkdsk for \Device\Harddisk3\DR3. You'd need to verify which drive that is first. Here's how you do that:

\Device\Harddisk3\DR3 could be one of your external drives. Not sure if that would cause the shutdown, but anything is possible. What are the make/model of the external drives? You might want to run diags on those also.
Have you had any more BSODs since you first posted?
Yes, a couple but the last one only between the 25th and the 26th (so about 36 hours ago).
I assume they are the BSOD, although I would only see the restarted computer in the morning.
Memory test is ok.
Will run the [big] external disk overnight and unplug the other, and see if that might stop the errors!
You could double check Bluescreenview and Event Viewer for the latest errors too.
What are the make/model of the external drives? You can run the Windows version of diags on them.
