Oh, so you didn't even install the Anniversary update yet.
If you really want to stop Windows Updates, the best way is to disable the Windows Updates service. Windows 10 doesn't have the same options as Windows 7.

i went ahead and disabled the windows update service. i'll keep my eye out for any comments on the KB 3199986 update and play it by ear if and when to enable the update service. it's just that i can't function without access to both of those data files on the nas.
is 1607 the anniversary update? i thought that was released in august. if so, it IS a long time coming my way ;)
