i downloaded the iso from a different site (a torrent actually). burned it. booted to it. same result.
there was no sata controller section per se. there is an advanced section that has the line item "configure sata as ... <ide>" but that's the only reference i can see.
That's it. Like I said, I don't have a Gateway in front of me.Quote:

So is it set to SATA as IDE? What are your options?

there are no options available. i can't chante the <ide> term
When you press Enter, there aren't any other options? If you couldn't change options, they would probably be grayed out.
What about in ATA/IDE Mode?
ah ... there are three options: ide, raid & ahci
If it was on IDE, try AHCI.
gotcha. when i get home, i'll change it to AHCI and then try the install again.
changed it to ahci, midknyte. rebooted to dvd. same result. media driver missing. :(
Did you try changing ATA/IDE mode from Native to Legacy? You'd probably have to change the SATA mode back to IDE also.
Ideally, you'd want to run Native and AHCI for best performance.

Wow. If none of those work, then maybe you still have a bad .iso download like Train mentioned or a bad burn.
What app are you using to burn the iso to disc? Did you try burning the DVD at a slower speed?
I'd set the BIOS to Native/AHCI. Those are the settings you'd want to use normally.

Server overloaded and goofing up the download is my guess.

i dl a new version of the iso. i am using active iso burner to burn it to dvd at 8x.
the vista machine i'm loading it into has the sata setting native/ahci in bios.
i'm back to the error message "a media driver your computer needs is missing. this could be a dvd, usb or hard disk driver ... etc".
seems like we're back to square one ;)
