thanks:)

Both the wired and wireless connections have 192.168.0.1 as the Default Gateway, DHCP Server, and DNS Server.
If the wired connection works and you can connect to the internet using those settings, then the wireless connection should work with the same settings. If it does not, then either there is a settings problem on the router, or you may have a hardware issue with the laptop wireless adapter.
-
Are you using windows wireless or the silly Dell program to access the internet?
-
Train - from his previous posts, I think that he is using the Dell or manufacturer's software, not the Windows wireless software.
-
i havn't adjusted any settings in the router since new,i dont have knowledge to do that.i probably could work out how to change a wireless card if thats whats at fault.
my other laptop and ipad all connect ok to the broadband hub:)thanks
-
Check the IP information on the other laptop to see if the settings are the same as the ones you posted here. If they are, then you have a hardware issue with this laptop. If they are not, change the settings on this laptop to match those on the laptop that is working.

this is the settings from my other laptop only difference is ip address does this mean its the wireless card that's at fault
-
It looks like you have the same wireless settings on the working laptop, so if the problem laptop shows Connected, but you can't access anything, you may have a hardware issue.
Can you ping the working laptop from the problem laptop when both are connected?
The line below from the working laptop's IP information is its IP address (which could change if you restart it or the IP address lease runs ut):
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.11(Preferred)
To see if the problem laptop can see it, try the following command on the problem laptop:
-
ping statistics say packets sent-4,received-0,lost-4(100%loss)
-
So communication there, so something is not working. If you have any other wireless networks in your area that you could try cnnecting to, you could try that. If that fails as well, it may be time to invest in a USB network adapter and disable the onboard adapter to see if that works.
-
Try ping yahoo.com
We know you can connect to the router, this will tell us if you can connect to the internet.
Code:
ping yahoo.com
or
ping 98.139.183.24
Same place
-
it said packets sent 4 received 4 lost 0
-
That just confirms what we already knew - no Internet access to go along with no internal network device access.
-
did it look like this
Code:
Ping statistics for 98.139.183.24:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
He may need to follow these instructions, I have had to may a time with Toshiba, HP and Dell laptops where I could ping yahoo but not get on the internet.
