I can go as far as after selecting the Safe Mode option, the next page shows a list of the drivers that's in my Partition 1 - the usual procedure. But it then stayed on this page and don't go further to the next page (as it should if it is working properly). So again, no access to the desktop in Safe Mode.Quote:

I'd say things do point at AVG being the problem. Searching for AVGIDSEH.Sys on google gets a number of hits with problems similar to both of yours.

(while it's convenient that they have a rescue CD to deal with unbootable systems you have to wonder why they needed to design a rescue CD to deal with unbootable systems)
At this point I would also consider having a look directly in the AVG user forums to see what others have done to fix the issue.

Regarding the AVG Rescue CD, that cd involves removing AVG from the system. Isn't that the same as uninstalling AGV ? I was lucky enough to be able to get past the AGV Watchdog error message barrier because my laptop works when set to SPEED setting to boot up. So I was able to get to my system to uninstall AGV. But when I reboot in the usual "NORMAL" mode setting, I get a blank screen in place of the AGV Watchdog message. (see my post #8 here).
This leads me to wonder if it may not be a AGV problem. Perhaps a Windows Update that is incompatible with AGV ???

I'd say that since the blank screen happens at the same point that it did with avg installed it may be remnants of an incomplete avg uninstall. Did you use the avg uninstall tool?

Yes, agree !. But I find it hard to believe that an experienced organisation like AVG is not able to fix a problem they created, unless they can't find any problem in what they have created that is causing any problem. So, thinking out of the box, perhaps, it could be that it is Windows who created a incompitable update ?Quote:

If AVG wants Windows user's business, it's up to AVG to make sure their software stays compatible with Windows.
So what happened if the last AVG update was compatible with Windows at that time the AGV update was released and after that, Windows come up with a update that conflicts with what is already working before that latest Windows update ?Quote:

This is what I have done just a few moments ago.
Taking Fink's comment, I used the AVG Uninstall Tool to uninstall AVG. Then reboot and I still get a blank screen, but I can hear the desktop in the background working.
I then installed MSE as SpywareDr suggested earlier, undate it and ran a quick scan, then reboot. Again, a blank screen.
My next question is: Does anyone know whether can a NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GS graphics driver work on any laptop monitor or does this need some sort of higher speed operating system to work ? I am not even sure why my laptop have a switch for STIMNIA and for SPEED and one setting works and the other does not since the AVG Watchdog problem started. My laptop is a Sony VGN-SZ583N. I'd be glad to receive some comments on this. Thanks.
