I suggest, you uninstall AVG altogether using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
Download and install one of these:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1...antivirus.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
- free Comodo Internet Security (firewall + AV): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
NOTE. During installation, Comodo will also allow you to install AV only, or firewall only, if you prefer to combine one Comodo product with some other product.
If you decide to install Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use Comodo firewall..
If you decide to install Comodo Internet Security, or just Comodo firewall, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.
IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall.
After installation, update the program and run full scan.
When done...
Print these instructions out.
NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe
***VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure, you update Malwarebytes before running the scans.***
STEP 1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

I will have to do all that tomw as I am at work now -
I did install a new Malawarebytes from a disc that I had dl'd from a link on this site so will try running that tomw and I will use that utility to uninstall AVG and go with Avira , I guess .
Thanks again for everything - I am going to do all that in normal start mode , I suppose because I don't want to be limited to living my life in safe mode : )
Unless you suggest otherwise , of course - I defer to your skills .

1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.
2. Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
1. Disable your active antivirus program.
2. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
3. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
4. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
5. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
- Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
- Archives
- Mail databases
6. Click on My Computer under Scan.
7. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
8. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
9. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

Ran TFC - am in the process of running Kapersky as I type - may take quite awhile and I may have to leave the house before that - depending on times .
Midway during the scan , I ddi try to put my modem on standby - I was unable again to shut off AVG and Kapersky did not seem to notice so not sure if AVG has indeed been compromised . Will install another AV program later .
Just got the message from Windows Security Alert that Windows firewall has blocked some features of this program ( Kapersky) ans asks if I want to keep blocking this program Java(TM) Platform SE Binary - I am ignoring and not clicking on a thing . Maybe just because I had powered the modem to standby ?
My firewall settings are set to OFF - when I look at Exceptions tab the Java SE Platform is there but unchecked . Java seems to have caused some issues - I am thinking maybe just uninstall JAVA in general as it seems to cause more vulnerabilites than good for what I need to surf .
The DOWNLOADS are still progressing on kapersky - have not even got to the Run option yet : )

Scanning Process?
When I look in Task Manager , rundll32.exe is reappearing and there is something called Scanning Process ..... the kapersky updates seem complete but status says null and nothing going on - are they back ? : ( Or never left ? : (

I had to exit the Kapersky site as it was doing nothing at all - just said Null , no options or anything and " hanging " - Scanning Process .. gone from Taskbar now byt rundll32.exe still there .

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
- Disable your antivirus program
- Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
- Click Start
- Accept any security warnings from your browser.
- Check Scan archives
- Click Start
- ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
- When the scan completes, push List of found threats
- Push Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

Broni, I JUST finished running that scan and it came back with 0 infected files , 0 threats found - There was no option to push List of threats found - maybe because there were none found , I suppose .
I did check the uninstall option when it finished .

7. Run defrag at your convenience.

I just followed all those instructions - I got a message that I had the current version of Java installed and I turned off system restore and then rebooted and turned it on again . Also , Dl'd the web of trust .
I always do my windows updates, update AV def. daily, and SAS ,Malwarebytes updates daily, etc. have my security settings to high , etc. and I really don' t go to questionable sites - I think I will order the wireless router that Comcast is offering for $10 to give me some more protection .
I really , truly appreciate all your help and patience . You are an incredible person to do all you do for strangers - kudos to you ! :)
Do you think I should just uninstall and reinstall AVG or are of the other two Avast , Avira better ? I hate to even shut off AVG for a moment lest I be attacked again ! Yikes .

Having a router is an excellent idea. It provides you with hardware firewall.
I surely prefer Avira, or Avast over AVG.

As for being in danger during switching time, don't worry. As long, as your firewall is up, you're fine.
