Reset (disconnect from power source for 30 sec), modem, and router.
Recycled the Westell 327W Modem/router-still no joy.
Also, deleted the registry value:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local
No change.
I do find it strange that when www.northcountrynow.com is selected it defaults to a Westel page when the router/modem is a Westell. I wonder if there is a connection there.
Update: Westelcom is the host of www.northcountrynow.com this was posted this AM on NCN:
NorthCountryNOW.com
Some pages may not work or display correctly because Westelcom, which hosts this site, is moving NorthCountryNow.com to a new server.
I'll call Westelcom Monday and see what I can find out. Thanks for your help(and patience) Broni. I'll post back with the final result.
She also needs to change her shortcut or favorite as the address has changed.
You're welcome. We won't know 'till Monday, then.
Problem solved. :) It was the Outpost firewall that had www.northcountrynow.com blocked. But I still can't figure out why it defaulted to the Westelcom site instead of giving a message of some kind. After I talked to Westelcom tech support this morning and not getting anywhere I started poking around and decided to shutdown both the XP firewall and Outpost. With both firewalls off I was able to access Northcountrynow. It was just a matter of elimination to figure out what was blocking the website. I had looked at the Outpost firewall earlier but didn't see anything that would indicate a single website being blocked, but noticed a string of temp files blocked. I took all of them off the blocked list and was then able to access NCN. That was a strange one. :)
Nice job :)
BTW, do you run TWO firewalls?
Yes, but it's never been a problem. Been running the two of them for 2 or 3 years now. If I remember right I had just Outpost running on her XP machine, but she kept complaining about the nag screen on boot so I just turned XP's firewall on. It didn't seem to slow her computer or cause any other problems so I left it running.Quote:

All I can say it's definitely not recommended.
It doesn't bring any gain, but may cause problems.
