Not to pile on, but with 7 million or so people in NYC, a heat wave or other event triggering massive load increases can cause trouble. If you don't think it can happen, look up the blackout we had up North in November 1965. You're best off with the UPS.

Right, lgbpop, and a local one, in NW Queens, in 2006, around 100,000 people were affected, ConEdison lawsuits are still in courts. So, I am going to do some research: to buy new acid-lead batteries, or somethiong lighter, or a new UPS. I am certain only about this: if I go without UPS, something bad will definitely happen. I know my luck!
