ALRIGHT!!:D
Thank you very much Train for straightening me out...all those floppy's got confusing to me.!
The only hiccup was when I didn't enter the correct file name for the new Bios...took a few minutes for the old lightbulb to come on in my head...:p
The Bios looks the same...now I can see what kind of upgrade I might want to get. I have a Kingwin all copper hsf ordered...hope it fits one of those Mobile cpu's if I decide to go that way.
lgbpop...are the M type cpu's just like the regular XP cpu's...will that regular cpu hsf fit the M types?
You can O/C the begeebers out a Mobile cpu, but have to use the lower FSB that the mobile calls for.
Dos may not be needed by 80% of the people, but we know better :D
You are most Welcome!
Not quite. One difference is what Train and I referred to, obviously - the unlocked multiplier that allows for some interesting performance tweaks.:) (I've had an XP-M 2600+ over 2.3GHz without breaking a sweat.)Quote:

Another difference is so small it might seem picky: the height of the mobile CPU core is about 0.003" shorter than the standard XP, but it can affect temperatures if the HSF isn't lowered a hair to compensate. With a standard HSF spring steel clip it shouldn't make a difference. With my Zalman, I filed the mounting brackets a tiny bit and that's all it needed. Something to keep in mind but nothing to worry about.
BTW, glad to hear you got the BIOS updated. That can be a bear to do. Interested to see what changes were made, regarding what CPUs that board will take.
Well...I went & done it..I found an Athlon XP-M 2000+...new...on e-Bay and I went ahead and bought it...didn't want to wait 6 days for bidding to end...paid $38.00 + $10.00 shipping. I would have liked to have gotten one that was faster but my budget is tight. This one is rated at about 1,666Mhz and since ya'll say that these o/c really well, and if my board and ram will be nice to me ( I have 767mb of pc133..don't know how much that ram will push), then maybe I can get 2000Mhz or so. Even at stock, it will be much better than this 1.4 Thunderbird, so whatever o/c will be icing on the cake. I saw that this Mobile is only 1.45 vcore...nice & cool.
Thanks, lgbpop & Train for the info about the XP-M's...sure hope my old board & ram co-operate.:)
Your welcome and you should get real close to 2000Mhz.
But do watch the heat while doing the O/C bit. It will CLIMB. And each cpu is different in what it can do.
Keep us posted on your progress. What did the BIOS update accomplish? I checked the Asus site, but it was pretty vague.
lgbpop....the Asus site was rather vague, wasn't it? My Bios was version 101 before updating, now it is 102...and I haven't seen anything in all of the Bios settings that is different but when you click on the support tab at the top of the site..then A7A133 board support...the page comes up that has a list of all of the cpu's that the A7A133 will support and the Bios update needed. There was a beta version listed for some of the faster cpu's but I didn't want to take a chance. They may be okay but I didn't know...do you know anything about those beta versions?
Along with a better hsf, I'm gonna do some hole cutting and due to space restrictions, I'm getting three 100mm S-Flex fans...front intake, side intake, rear exhaust...that ought to keep things nice & cool. I could have gotten a 120mm for the side but I just kept them all the same for simplicity. And since that M-type cpu runs so much cooler than this hot T-bird, even with a little bump in vcore I expect good temps.
Good fan plan, just remember to test the side panel fan blowing both in and out. Depending on the individual case and setup, one is always better than the other and I have found no way to guess which is better ahead of time.
Probably low 40's C.
Steve, would you just please list the added CPUs that are now supported??? All I get is a runtime error when I try to go to that page you described. There can't be that many. Thanks.
Try this:

hope this works...
Nope...that didn't work...okay, here is the list of cpu's for the A7A133:
Athlon 1000 thru 1400 ( 200 &266 fsb)
Athlon 700,750,850,900,950
Athlon XP 1500 thru 2600 ( Bios 1012)
Duron 1000 thru 1800 (models 7 & 8)
.....Duron 1400,1600,1800 ( Bios beta 1013.001)
Duron 600 thru 950 ( models 3 & 7)
Let us see if this flies.

Ripped it apart and posted it here. Just in case!
