There is no option for early voting in my state....
You can apply for an absentee ballot....but have to meet a certain criteria (health, military, etc). Other than that...you must show up on election day if you want to cast a vote....that's the rules....
Also...there is a deadline to apply for an absentee ballot....and it expires well in advance of election day.
Our laws re. absentee voting have restrictions also but the beauty of early voting is as I stated already. Good or bad, I don't really know. I took advantage of it's availability to vote early and I think that provision kicks in 5 days before election day. It could be that early voting is to entice those who are semi-home bound or those with other medical, age; etc. reasons to get out and cast their ballot.
Get out the vote and go vote is a right and privilege that we Americans have and one that we should exercise. Threaten to take it away through some means or law and our country would be in one more of an uproar. Think about it :)

A few points: I am a card carrying republican (with a brain!). I am totally fed-up with the Republican Party! YES! They have done ALOT right, especially with the war on terrorism and tax cuts! But most of my life republicans told me NOT to vote for the other side, they tax and spend, they grow the gov. big, they make too many laws, etc... Well... the last 12 years WE have had both the house and senate and ALL 3 branches for 6 years now! Guess what? The gov is bigger, the budget is bigger, there are more laws, etc... than ever before! UNDER the Republican Party! I will NEVER vote for 99% of democrats. I DID vote for Zell Miller and Sam Nunn (both democrats!) and was sorry they stepped down! I would vote for Joel Lieberman (D) IF he was here in Georgia! The point is I and MANY like me have NO party that represents us anymore! BOTH parties have made it almost impossible for a 3rd. party to ever be a threat!
I think MOST of our problems would be solved if there were TERM LIMITS!
Everybody, senate, house, and the president get ONE 4 year term. NO using the last WHOLE year campaigning for re-election! When I was a CHILD RECESSES were done away with for me and all my friends! The House and Senate take SEVERAL recesses YEARLY. Most are for 6 weeks or more!!! I think I read once that they actually only work about 5-6 months out of the year! Anyone in this forum have a PAID VACATION for HALF A YEAR YEARLY??? The pay should be lowered to about $60.000 per year! (That is for 6 MONTHS remember!) ALOT more than we make!
Also the way they campaign for the entire last YEAR of there term, they do NOT do the nations business, they get paid and use benefits! THAT SHOULD BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY!!! Anybody here take the last YEAR off from their job, RETAIN it, get PAID and USE benefits??? IF I did that at Fed-Ex
Corporation, then go up and down the street petitioning for a competitor to hire me, Fed-Ex would FIRE me, SUE ME and I would have a court date!!!
In case you are wondering, I am FED UP with ALL politicians! ALL branches and levels of gov. Why are our borders STILL open? Why do my wife and I pay MORE than $60,000.00 in TAXES yearly and all they want is MORE and MORE! The Tax Payers in this country are punished, We are told to work harder, PAY MORE TAXES, while our neighbors STAY HOME and do not work, and are REWARDED for having sex and making babies! Criminals are given DOZENS of chances when they are in court, let a HONEST tax paying citizen screw up ONCE and the Judge says he is going to make an example out of you! I am a Fed-Ex employee now for almost 21 YEARS. I do not party, I do not smoke (NEVER tried Pot!), do not do drugs; do not drink alcohol of ANY kind (Never!) and never done drugs! But because I am a Professional Driver with a CDL (Commercial Drivers License) I have had THREE random drug and alcohol tests the last THREE WEEKS! But the Section 8 people and the gimme welfare crowd IN our neighborhood are NOT required to have substance abuse tests! WHY NOT???!!! THEY are the ones where the VAST majority of the crimes, murders, drive by shootings, drug wars and use, gangs and gang activity, violence and all the wonderful things their values and culture has brought us!!!
Something has got to give... Our nation CANNOT keep this up and survive!

When Bush goes to a military base to speak, we always has a big attending crowd (in numbers)----he has a captive audience----the military are ordered to attend. I had to do similar things when I was in the service and that order was passed on down the line. All of them have to do it---no questions asked. Just so you non-military families know that for a fact.
Here are 3 excerpts (AP coverage ?)from the Bush visit to Pensacola today, 11/6:

Still, Karl Rove, Bush's top political adviser, suggested that reporters see whether Crist would be able to hastily assemble anything like the Pensacola event, which drew about 7,000. (I didn't know the Naval Air Base in Pensacola had some many people. Probably included ALL family members and those who work there as civilians---buf)

With Crist as a no-show, Bush was joined on stage by a host of Florida Republican officeholders and candidates - but not by Republican Rep. Katherine Harris. She has run a much-panned Senate race that has had her Republican elders cringing and both the president and retiring Gov. Jeb Bush largely avoiding her. (They don't like her either!!--buf)

Hey, I think the machines that we use to cast our vote should be those used by VDr. I just looked at the poll and it tells me that I have already voted!!! That's accuracy :D
I cringe at the though of Charlie Rangel (D-NY) keeping his promise to rescind all Republican tax-cut bills that were passed in the past six years--that will be a $1.20 trillion tax increase, mainly on the working guy who benefitted most from them (extra tax deductions for kids, the estate tax on inheritances, and the capital-gains tax reduction) as well as small businessmen like me.
I find it miraculous that any of that got through the obstructionism of Pelosi and Reid (and Daschle before Reid). Without their tactics, the temporary tax cuts would have been permanent and not subject to ending.
We haven't seen much Republicanism, but that's thanks to the never-ending roadblocks by the "working guy's" party--what a laugh. (I'd love to make money the way Harry Reid does!) Why on earth would I vote for them? That won't punish Republicans, it would punish me--and I'd deserve it for doing so.

Still a debatable issue as to whether the "ill defined working man" benefited from the Bush led tax cuts.!! But there is no need to try to debate this with me--I don't wanna hear it no mo!!
PS How is the new granddaughter these days. Growing no doubt and getting spoiled. Good that she knows her nights from her days and lets the family sleep through the nights!
When I drank, it was Bud. John Kerry and his type are into imported stuff, not me. And yes, I bebefitted. On an annual income in the $28,000 range my taxes dropped $3300 a year--came in handy paying the kids' dental bills, back-to-school clothes, and frivolous expenditures like car repairs etc. :rolleyes: But hey, I'm "rich," so raise my taxes some more. That rightfully makes me cringe.

I have voted absente for the last 4 years. As I am working as a judge that day and I may end up as I did this year, about 20 miles from my district. The last year I voted for someone who I thought could do the job was in 1964 with Goldwater. I was in the airforce at the time in Japan.
These days I don't vote for someone I think can do the job, none of them do anything anymore. I just vote for the people I think will do the least amount of damage in their term of office. ( from that you can see who I didn't vote for the last 8 years).
Still, everyone please get out and vote. I can see that the turn out in Washington State will be low with all the rain and rivers over flowing. Can't blame them for that.

I sure hope so! I'd love to be able to control "my" own retirement fund. At a 1.2% interest rate, the government sure isn't capable of doing so. I can do a heck of a lot better than that. But then the government wouldn't be in control of my money or have it to spend, so who knows. James Madison and Thomas Paine (in the Federalist Papers) both observed that any government's natural inclination is to expand its own size, by virtue of the very definition of government. Congratulations to Stephen Harper in Canada, I hope he has more success than Joe Clark did.
Not to worry--Bush with all his "Political Capital", as he so named it in 2004, will NOT be changing Social Security. He will be doing well to just stay in office without another, and the greatest blemish to his term of office..

Anyway....just to show how an intrepid a voter I am.....
I not only had to go out and vote in the rain....I also had a flat tire I had to first pump and drive to the service station for a repair. Beat that you crazy American voters!!! LOL :D
Well, the campaigning is over, and the voting is just about finished. I probably shouldn't have gotten into it, but I love a good political discussion. :) Political discussions are the bane of most forums, as they invariably become flame wars or worse. Check out any forum that allows it and you know what I mean.
I'm pleased to say that the members of VDr are far removed from that kind of behavior and this thread proves it. Despite our political leanings and convictions, we have enough respect for one another not to let things get out of hand.

Normally I don't watch TV news....but will likely tune into CNN or FOX and catch the returns as they come in...
Then again....as a painter....I also will watch paint dry...... :D
