programs not closing down

Elaine, thanks for asking. I have managed to remove the GhostSurf program thanks. The problem of shutting down though is not fully resolved. For example when I use RecordNow, on the Toshiba as it came with the computer and is included in the Toshiba Windows Recovery Disk, even though I close it down after copying files to a DVD, when I go to shut down I get the message to say that the program is still running, do I wish to cancel or End Now. Also because it is still running, and I thought I had closed it down, if I wish to copy other files I cannot get it to show itself, even though I can't see it anywhere. I hope you understand what I am saying, as it is not a case of Windows itself hanging on Shutdown, but a program hanging.

I get the same problem if I close down for example partway through Outlook Express checking for mail, but I can understand this as I know why it is asking, but with this RecordNow I cannot understand it because I closed it down.

I hope I have made myself clear.

Go into task manager/application
Highlight the program {single click it} and drop down and click the EndTask button.

I understand exactly what you mean. I used to have the same problem with an old version of Nero.

The way to fix it is to reinstall the program, but you said it is on a Recovery CD so you won`t be able to do that. :(

Train`s solution is probably your best option until you have to reinstall with the pesky recovery CD.

Thanks Elaine. These recovery CDs are certainly misnamed - as I found out to my cost once and lost everything.
