You guys need to taste some produce from around here - the homegrown tomatoes (bought from a farmer) or that a friend has grown and given away are sooooooo good. Watermelons - one called Sugar Baby Icebox - does really well around here, too. But, I know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to the "pretty" fruit and veggies in the stores now, no taste, no texture.
One of my pet peeves - whether you make minimum wage or the big bucks - is the way people treat customers. What happened to people being nice?
Went to The Funnybone Comedy Club in Va. Beach the other night. Had a super waitress. She wasn't a nuisance, we never had to hunt her down, and it was very busy. She got a really good tip, I made a point to tell her afterwards that she was great and I thanked her.
Well here is a little story ....
My sister works for a repair/gas station chain and she told this story yesterday.
They offer full service and an older woman pulled up to the pump ... this kid that was working I'll call him "pete" for arguments sake ....
Well "pete" saw her parked out there .... and kept sitting on his ass.
so she flashed her lights and honked her horn..... standard procedure at the full service pump... in case they don't see you sitting there.
after she got out and started to come in he came out...
She got back in the car and asked for 5$ in gas. He said you gotta be kidding me? She said no not kidding I only have 5$. He said something and she said there was no need to be rude... and he said ...... Well I think you are being rude making me come out here to pump 5 f'ing bucks worth of gas.
She called Jessy the next day and was nearly in tears. She said she has arthritis and can't get the cap off and only had 5 dollars...... almost like she was apologizing. My sister stopped her and said she didn't need to explain anything its full service even if she wanted 1 dollar of gas ... it was his job to pump it.
She apologized to the woman for his actions and she questioned him about it. He was blatenly proud of his actions... since this wasn't the first time he had been rude to customers she said that was it. He had a choice.... to change his attitude and do the job he was required to do or find a new one.
So of course now he thinks he got the upper hand because he doesn't show up for work, leaving them short handed. But, Jess said thats fine. Now he will never be hired by any company owned by the one she works for. They have their hand in tons of companies around here.
OK...that's it....we are all going to GetaGrrrip's house for melons, 'maters and taters..... :DQuote:

I'm glad she called and told the story.
One of my co-workers from another branch office of ours, always comments on how nice I am on the phone. I tell her I have to be, until I know who it is -then I can be myself. :D
LOL! We didn't have a garden this year Maxx, so you're out of luck! :p
Strawberries that taste like sawdust, UGH
Were are the strawberries and yellow watermelons. They were right tasty!
I haven't seen a yellow watermelon in ages :(

Ya'll need to come to Cave City, Arkansas....home of some of the sweetest watermelons around. There is an annual Watermelon Festival here...draws a good sized crowd...lots of fun...good-ole-country style...
I have two apple trees in my front yard....not sure how old they are...maybe 30 yrs....maybe older...but they make some very juicy, crunchy apples...I think they are a Winesapp variety. I also have an old pear tree that also produces lots of pears.
I love the "ya'll" - it is used around here a lot, too. :)Quote:

The Stayman Winesapp is the greatest apple to ever grace a branch..... :D
Followed by the Grannysmith and Braeburn.....
There is a farm near here that I go to get them....but they (Winesapp) don't come in until around halloween.
I like em' sour............. :D
Maxx talks about the Winesapps all the time.... Say's they are the best.
I am going to find some this year... I am taking the girls apple picking next weekend...... pray it doesn't rain!! :D
Then we will detour to Arkansas for melons :D ........ boy they sound good :D
Yep, seems like some of the really sweet apples tend to be a bit mushy - at least some of the ones I've had.
I like lemons with salt, but my dentist told me I had to quit that, it wrecks your teeth.
I never heard that before ... what does it do? Not that I eat lemons a lot ;)
But I do like granny smiths with salt :D
..... not a lot of salt just a sprinkle.... seems to make the flavor pop!
The acid in the lemons eats the enamel off of your teeth. :(
lemons with salt....hmmm.....reminds me of a good frozen margarita..:D
my apple trees had a tough time this year with the record high temps and very little rain. These trees are bi-ennial producers...a crop every other year. Two years ago they produced lots of big, juicy, crunchy apples....this year, due to the record high temps and very little rain they only produced small apples.I watered them several times this Summer but nothing can replace rain..
