Well I think WinFS would have been a good reason to upgrade to Vista, but now that's not going to happen. I think XP is gonna hang around like 98 did. MS is going to be forced to support it for a very long time. I'll upgrade in due time, I'm sure.

You can always try PCLinux!
Here is a recent review of RC1:

Its a good read, but to sum it up:
This is rather disappointing really. Makes you wonder what MS has been doing for the last 6-7 years. Will this be ME II?Quote:
Vista's still a mess. It's meant to be at release candidate stage, yet vendors are struggling to provide sufficient driver support, features are still missing or not yet complete, and its performance compared to XP is still poor. Nowadays hardware is cheap, and it would be sufficiently acceptable to upgrade in anticipation of a wonderfully revolutionary OS. Unfortunately Vista provides little to no benefit for end users compared to that of the previous version of Windows, released five years ago in 2001.
I find it hard to disagree on the driver front, expecially for Vista x64 :(
But I haven't found anything missing in RC1 so far, and I have no complaints about performance at all. Beta versions will never perform as well as final versions because they are stuffed full of debugging code, so it is very unfair to complain about the performance in any case. I read that review and wondered if we were running the same OS
Its not Beta anymore. According to the author, RC's should be close to the final release. And according to him, its not even close.
I'll probably be able to upgrade to Vista about the time they come out with Windows 3000
:D
