It's been my experience when updating to a totally newer version, that If I uninstall using add/remove and then install the newly downloaded version, I keep all my bookmarks and extensions intact. So don't delete any of the files/folders you might find in c: programs, and you should be okay....
since your current version is as old as it is, that's how I would do it....but for future reference, you can update newer versions thru the 'check updates' under the Help menu.
btw the newest version is now 1.5.0.3

Yes, just uninstall FF in Add/Remove Programs then install the latest (now1.5.03). You'll keep all your existing bookmarks and setings.

This may sound like a stupid question, but, how does it keep all the bookmarks in the folder and all the extensions and updates you may have done if you completely uninstall the firefox version that is currently on your system?

I'm sure there is a technical answer to your question, and I wish I could put it in those terms, but don't know them. :rolleyes:
That being said, my technically challenged ideas of how some of this works, (ahem), are that FF is not 'completely uninstalled' and the new installation looks for these items while installing and incorporates them with the new version...(that's why I indicated not deleting those files in my previous post).

I just unistalled my current version and installed the most recent version, which, was a success. I didn't loose any of my bookmarks. :) Now back to my original delimma. When I go to control panel/java/advanced/<applet> tag support section. Right now I only have explorer box checked. When I went to check the other box, which is, mozilla and netscape box, a browser warning message box popped up stating: unable to change browser settings - Please check if firefox and netscape are properly installed on the system and/or that you have sufficient permissions to change system settings.

How come I am still receiving this message and it won't allow me to make this change? The name I am using on this computer is listed in the administrator group in control panel/user and passwords. How can I make this change? :(

Glad to hear your FF update was okay...:)
As for the control panel question, I also get the same error when trying to check the java applet tag support, and I'm the only user/admin on this computer. I have no clue as to the fix.
Perhaps someone will pop in on this thread with the appropriate answer.

Thank for your help, Poppy4. I hope someone will know how to get firefox to accept when checking the mozilla and netscape box under java applet tag support because I want to be able to use firefox browser with a particuliar website.

Do you know that in FF under Tools/options/content/...you can enable Java and Java script?.....just thought of it and wanted to mention.

Poppy, and JLS, it is the first part of the error that you're overlooking i think, the options to tick are Netscape, Mozilla, and IE, and it is referring to Mozilla Suite, not Firefox....i get the same message, and i don't have Netscape or Mozilla Suite installed, so that is why i assume it is correct.

Liam858, you mean the only way to be able to check mozilla is if you have mozilla suite installed, which, I don't. :(

I think so, as i have the same error message when i try and tick Mozilla, and i am Admin on this machine, and have Firefox installed.....
