Too late
Hi Dennis,
Thanks for the tip. It would have been worth trying but the horrible thing is someone else's prob for the time being. Here I am feeling cosy on my old puny Win98 machine which had been relegated to the garage mainly to play music CD's !!! The last posts I did were on someones laptop. So I got the old girl going.....main nuisance was downloading and re=installing Zone Alarm and Anti-Virus which I had deleted. Anyway it will do for the wife whilst I am away.
Yes my problematic machine had an internal modem. Haven't had much lightning around here recently and it was still on the old dial-up....but as I said it would have been worth a try. Will ring them on Tuesday after the hols and suggest it.
Thanks again,
Rod

Okay, hope it works out.

You could get a knoppix disk and run it to see if it will boot up and see what is on the hard drive.
