Poppy,
Do you have a reset button on your maintenance tab?
I do not have one but then I don't have the latest version either.

Nope.....can't find it either.
Blue might have meant something in the newsgroups?....I don't use them so don't know myself.
I think the version number does vary with the version of Windows. But it is also changed by the Critical Updates you install.
Using WinXP Pro SP2, the version of msoe.dll that I have is 6.0.2900.2869. My version of OE per Help|About Outlook Express, is the same as poppy's and Aussiblue's.

The Symptoms section may need some updating.
Don't think so as, although I have Hp photosmart installed that value in the registry is already set to one and I have none of the other symptoms. My options in maintenance/cleanup in order down the window include: compact, Remove Messages Delete and Reset. what are yours? I think I compacted before resetting so maybe that had something to do with it or perhaps the fact I am also running Outlook 2003.Quote:

It seems others have the reset option too. See http://www.ntcompatible.com/outlook_...es_t33708.html and http://www.samspublishing.com/librar...eqNum=229&rl=1 and http://homepages.cs.ncl.ac.uk/gerry..../w2kguide.htmlor just do a google search to find more references to it.
Perhaps it is in your IE7 options see http://help.bellsouth.net/bellsouth/...f-5582013e4393 By the way I always open OE from IE7.
Note, as indicated in my posts it is not on the maintenance tab itself you have to hit cleanup first.Quote:

Aussiblue--Ah, that is a different matter. As can be seen, the Maintenance tab, itself has a "Cleaning up Messages" section.Quote:

Thanks for clarifying that. I've always been hesitant to click on 'cleanup', didn't want to automatically do it....but now I see the choices....and the reset...:)Quote:

I have been caught more times than I would like to admit when a function created a bigger problem for me that I had to fix.
Can you tell me what happens if I click on cleanup?
Thanks,
Linda
Linda,
a window opens with the choices of
compact
remove messages
delete
reset
you can click on cleanup and no action will take place until you make a further choice....so it is safe to open the clean up window.hth
