I had a look at Device Driver, incl Hidden, but no yellow evident even when expanded.
The only USB device I have is an HP psc 2210 all-in-one print/scan/copy/fax machine. When I unplugged this and re-booted I got no BUGCODE or IRQL Stop Errors, but I got a Stop Error. There was no Bugcode info, but the Tech Info listed an 0x0000008E item (plus 3 others in the brackets).
I've added no new USB drivers, or any drivers recently.
I haven't had the chance to look at msconfig and startup, but will do so and get back with the results.

Nick, sorry I forgot the Everest report. I'm not familiar with Everest so don't know what file I'm looking for. The only one that matches the time/date is a .rpf file which the system won't accept. Sorry, but what am I looking for and how do I upload it? I thought a text file would be a .txt file but I can't find one with todays date.
In Everest,
- Click the [+] (plus sign) to the left of Computer
- Under that, (under Computer), click on Sensor
- Now up on the Everest menu up at the top, click Report, select Quick Report - Sensor, then Plain Text
- When the report appears, press [Ctrl-A] (to select all) then press [Ctrl-C] (to copy it to memory).
Now come back over here to this thread here on VirtualDr and scroll down until you see the Quick Reply box near the bottom of the thread. Then:
- Click once in the Quick Reply box to place the cursor in it.
- Press [Ctrl-V] to paste what you copied into memory into the Quick Reply box.
- That's it; click the Post Quick Reply button.

I don't care too much for those temps, especially if they are idling temps. Take the cover off the case and clean any dust out of it, especially out of the CPU heatsink. Then try blowing a room fan into the case and see if that makes any difference.
I cleaned out very little dust in the case. There's virtually none because I had a DVD burner & a case fan installed in April 2005.
I looked at the temps again & they're very similar (CPU core 1.66v, +3.3v =3.30v, +5v =4.87v, +12v =12.99v, +5v Standby =5.11v, DIMM VTT =1.28v).
Do you feel these are too high? If s do you feel that the higher temps may possibly be causing the problem? If so, couldn't I expect the problem to be less evident in the morning after having been switched off all night? (I've noticed that 1st thing in the morning I can be almost sure of a Stop Error.) This happened this morning.
Yesterday, I used msconfig to use diagnostic mode. I then went thru re-ticking several programmes at a time & rebooting. I did the same with Services. After 37 very boring reboots I don't think I had one problem (except a NAV one which was fixed by a reboot). Having only the MS Services to re-tick I went to bed. This morning I booted up and immediately got a Stop Error (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. It was an 0xD1 error which referred to tcpip.sys. The MS Services were not enabled, but the PC rebooted OK without them the next time. I'm now in Normal Startup mode. Since the problem this A.M I've had no more Stop Errors. I'm at a complete loss.
Do you have any other ideas or do you think I should let my local PC shop have a closer look than you guys are able to do? It would really be helpful to have your comments about the various questions I've asked here. As before I much appreciate the suggestions I've received in answer to my posts.
Those are the voltages ;) The 12volt is a bit high, but that isn't particularly critical as it's primarily used for driving the various motors. The others are fine.Quote:

I tried your suggestion of blowing a fan into the PC case at startup this morning, but got a Stop Error (no Bugcode). This one is different and suggests running the driver verifier against any new of suspect drivers, try enabling special pool.” Tech Info: 0XC5.
It restarted OK the 2nd time. Although this message is different again to the others it does seem to be pointing in the direction of RAM and drivers. I still can't work out why the problem always seems to be at the 1st startup each day.
OK, then I think the next thing to try is to take the sticks of RAM out and take them to a computer repair place that has a hardware memory tester. Although Memtest is a useful tool, software testers can't identify every possible error.
The other possibility that springs to mind is that there is a problem with the cache memory on the CPU. But it would be best to get the main RAM tested and eliminated first.
If you like I can move this thread over to the hardware forum, as it really looks more hardware related than anything else.

Don't know if it has any direct bearing on your problem or not but, that 12.93 to 12.99 bothers me a bit. The ATX Power Supply specifications call for a ±10% on the +12VDC which means it should be between a minimum of 11.4 to a maximum of 12.6. Yours is hovering well beyond the maximum with a 12.9x. Thanks Spyware Dr. If this is the problem what's the solution? I'd like to think that this high PSU voltage is the problem as presumably replacing it isn't a major problem (or is it?).
All this stuff is outside of my experience, but as I mentioned earlier the problem seems to happen when the PC is 1st started in the day, usually after an overnight break. I can restart many times after this and it'll restart with no problem. When I was using Diagnostic mode in msconfig I rebooted 37 times without any problem (or at most only once). You would think that the longer the PC is running the hotter it would get and therefore trigger the problem, but it only seems to happen once on the 1st boot of the day.
First thing I'd do is verify the +12VDC output with a reasonably-good Digital Multimeter. With the computer running, (be careful), grab an extra Molex connector, (like the ones for the hard drive[s]). Set your Multimeter for DC voltage. Insert your Multimeter's black lead into the Molex black wire's hole nearest the yellow wire, then insert the red lead into the yellow wire's hole. The reading should be 12.00 but, anything between 11.40 and 12.60 is OK.
