My 2 cents :
PS going bad can go fast or slowly. It can die on it's own, or take out one or more items with it. Mobo, CPU, ran, even the video card, can all be damaged by a bad PS.
I normally use only Antec (since it came with my cases), but when I wanted to upgrade to a 400w+ unit, I went for a $$ deal due to user reviews (5 stars) at newegg. Turns out this PS (Coolmax) is breaking down anywheres from 9 months (sooner for 24hr/7 day users) to a year. Mine is still alive but I worry now. Reports are of the PS going bad by itself, or taking other parts with it. One guy had his mobo fry, got a new one, had that fry, then found out the PS was bad. Sleeve fans fail in these cheaper PS's often. I plan to replace all my PS fans with ball bearing fans ASAP (if they are sleeves).
So my guess would be the PS.
Maybe your friend can test out your parts to see what's no damaged.
I wouldn't hook that PS to any good equipment though.
PS recommendations (don't know who the author is) ........

ok new scenario
Hi
Ok *sigh* so i bought a new mobo Asus P4S800D-X
I hooked up just the powersupply, cpu, and hard drive and the monitor,
when I turn it on, nothing shows up on the screen (I don't hear the hard drive starting up).
so i shut it down and try this instead: I unhooked the atx 12v plug, kept the hard drive hooked up, powered on, but nothing shows up on the screen.. the cpu doesn't run.
the power supply is a used on that belongs to a friend of mine, it's an enermax 300w
what could be the problem now?

Have you tried not having the Hard drive connected?

yah, im giving up =oT
i saw a dark area around a group of 4 pins on the cpu
looks like the power supply took everything with it =oT darn it
im going to buy a laptop now
gosh thanks for everyones posts! i really appreciate it =)

That's a shame :( It does sound like you were very unlucky when the PSU went.

yeah, i just installed another ga-7vaxp that i had laying around. . the other had bulged caps, which actually started up, ran for a few minutes, then smelly death (bulging caps did it). . psu is still good, its only the caps that are dead. . the other mobo is dead too, as it only starts for two seconds then shuts down, so i think it was prolly mostly your mobo, however it mightve fried your video card. . .onto the marketplace for me. .
