[RESOLVED] Windows Updates

hey, gang, we HAVE a solution.

talked to my friend this morning and she said that she's now connected to the net WITH all windows security updates applied successfully. i asked if she had followed the links you guys suggested. she hemmed and hawwed saying that she's embarassed to tell me what the problem turned out to be. finally she told me ... it turns out that when she installed 98 she neglected to change the year when windows asked her what year it was. she changed the day and month but neglected to change the year. according to her computer, it's 2016.

she corrected the year and, voila, everything is copacetic. somehow that was interfering with her updates.

thanks again for helping with this third-party problem.

now that she's net-worthy, i've directed her to this site. you've been warned :D

I installed this today and it screwed up my computer. Reinstalled my ghost image and all was ok then. I then d/l'd this again but only installed the optimizer and computer is still working. Use at your own risk!

I don't even bother setting the time and date in the bios for years now. I always install a program called "Atomic Clock Sync" which links to the world time server and sync's the computer to the current time. The atomic clock is the worlds most accurate clock and will set your computer to the second. Get the free program here. http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic%2Dclock/ I download it from www.download.com (A long time safe place to download from with no pop up ads). After installing I notice I have to double click on the clock in the system tray and then close it. When I close it the time will show correctly.

After installing it, connect to the internet, and run the program. Click on Ping and then it will link and update the time. Click on ok and then close the program. Thats all there is to it!

One of the nice things about this utility is it will show your clock being off if the battery for your cmos is getting weak. This will give you a heads up on that little problem before your computer all of a sudden doesn't work or boot anymore due to a bad battery! Best of all.... like most of my favorite software.... it's a freebie!!

Strange that zeszut it usually states to check system time and date as part of an web update error message if that is a possibly update failure.Anyhow glad its working and I'm sure she wont do it again :D
