What "little" program...do I wish existed???

One program I'd like to see is one that can allow me to use my PC remote to control both Windows Media Player (music and movies) and my PCTV tuner all in one. I can always find one or the other, but whenever I think I have discovered freeware that combines the features, it never works. I am pretty tech savvy and have configured the various freebie applications precisely according to instructions, but they never, ever work. Ofcourse there's the new Windows Media Center, but that is a lot of moolah...

Since we're on this subject. I want a program that when I sit down at my computer I can say "Computer On' and it will boot. And then say "Computer Search" with what ever I want it to search for or "Computer Open" whatever program I want open at the time.

to controle changes to startup programs you have several options..

first is as said Spybot SnD.. has a background service that monitors changes to the Registry.. only in versions since 1.3
or you could use registyrprot from diamondCS.. this dose the same thing just not as pretty..

I want a throttle, and controls that will also monitor my memory usage, system temperature, and processing speed so that the system will never ever lock up again. I wanna feel the compression as I glide through cyberspace just like the USS ENTERPRISE at warp speed!

There are two programs on my wish list.

The first pertains to Favorites. When I save a bookmark, I would like the ability to document

date favorite saved,
why saved,
referred to website by VDR, John Doe, etc;
Comments

This program would be activated after each URL is saved to Favorite.

The second program on my wish list is a program that would allow me to document source and referral information about every download with the exception of OS updates. When I start the download process, I would like the completion of that process to activate this program with the following fields:

Date of download
Why Saved
Recommended by website
Recommended by Person's name
Comments

added to these.. talking of Voice recognition..

record voice patterns ONCE only.. and transfer the pattern files to any voice recog device.. . have just pained my way through setting up the voice patterns in another phone.. oh and the ability to update as the users inflictions vary.. nice to compensate for that cold just by talking to the computer in the morning .. and the phone, pda, security system follow you during the day..

I had a comment for the Favorites and the D/L .. I know that in Flashget you can save comments when you start the D/L.. and you can to similar in some compression progs when zipping.. the flashget info seems to be only compatable with flashget.... but any of this would be nice with voice recog.. s/ware

It's coming
One of the best at it for the home pc is ivos.
Check out the command list under support, pretty extensive.

I wish there was one that explained in understandable english what the Error (especially microsoft's) messages mean and how to fix them.

One thing that bugs me is when i open a site and there is music or some other sounds (some are very loud).
Wish there would be a choice to ear it or not and advise me before blasting me with it.
In some site you can stop it but it is hard to find,mostly it's at the end of the page (to late) you wake up everybody ,lol.

You could also give SpySweeper a try. It also has a resident part that scans for changes in the registry and/or startup.

I've got an idea or two:

First, I'd love a program - simple and free - that informs us once a month (or set to our preferences) about programs we've downloaded/installed that we haven't used in X amount of time and then gives us the option to open it and view it, then asks if we'd like a complete, hassle-free uninstall. That'd be cool, huh?

Secondly, with the concept of "Scheduled Tasks", I thought of this. I think MS could certainly haul butt on this or the Google geniuses will. People just might like the idea of an email that informs us each time Windows Updates come out. A link to it or the actual list would be nice.

Third, I think either with that first program listed above or a totally separate one, that tells us when we last defragged, ran scandisk, etc...with the option of doing so then and why it needs to be done, other than the timing, like remnants of things we thought we uninstalled that remain on our PC. Or whatever other reason. I'm all for convenience, can ya tell?

Next, how about the local weather installed into the desktop that can be used with MOST or ALL operating systems? The only one I found works with XP and no others.

Last (for now anyway, lol), how about a program that lets us know that even though we intended to download and install something like Yahoo IM or Weatherbug, for examples, that we will also be getting free trial AOL or Comet Cursor? I really hate when I download something and it's not in plain English that it will include some garbage I don't want or need, and in all liklihood, will hate or conflict with something else I have.

Everyone's 2 cents?

i can't believe that there has been close to 800 views on this thread but ONLY 28 replies... there's LESS than 30 or so new or different programs that people want or need !!!!!

Do we have all that we need or want as far as we are concerned???
IMHO...a satisfied world is a sorry world, and if this is so, the word better get out to all high schoolers not to take up computer programming in college...there will be no jobs since we have all that we want/need today!!!

or is it that the people that visit webopedia are not very imaginative???? anyone take that challenge???
