user595212, If you want to raise your child like Dr. Spock told you to that is your problem, but don't forget Dr.Spock's son took his own life
in his 20's. I guess pop didn't raise him right?
Deltree, if Pops did what he thought was right, but it was wrong, does it matter if he thought it was right???? What's love got to do with it???? (sorry Tina Turner).
I think you think what you say is right, but sorry to say I think you are wrong.People spank their child NOT out of hate but out of LOVE. LOVE has every thing to do with it, sorry if you can't see that.
What passes for "parenting" in this day and age just frosts me. I don't look at other people and say that is wrong I look at me and say it is right.
My point is that the kind of pettiness and impulsive foolishness this dad evidenced shows me that he is not a grownup.
I think he is a MAN that LOVES his children, some times talking and action will get the point across.
As for "rewarding" them for bad behavior, I don't consider Christmas and its celebration to be that kind of "reward."
I think you are right there, but that is the way some people are.
The bottom line is! you raise your childre the way you think is right
and other the way they think is right.http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/love3.gif

What's right
OK, we'll see who turns out better!!
Though some kids turn out well in spite of their parents. Or badly.
It's just that I've seen so much cruelty. The family in New Jersey, active in their church and overtly spiritual, who adopted four sons and proceeded to starve them because they apparently had a theory that the boys had eating disorders. These were kids who were 3 and 4 feet tall and one of them was 19! He looked like a 6-year-old. They thought they were right to do this. It wasn't until the eldest was found by a neighbor rooting in his trash for something to eat that the state got involved and removed them. Now, after hospital care and new homes, they have all grown dramatically. Eating disorder my foot.
When I was a therapist (for 6 years in the 1990s), I had a client in his 50s whose parents traded him and his brother for a case of booze, then left them alone for a couple of weeks until the county figured out that a 7- and 9-year-old were home alone. They were put in foster care, thankfully together (doesn't always happen), but were physically and sexually abused there. This man had such incredible pain.
Had a client who got pregnant at 17; she subsequently married the guy and they had 3 more kids. But when she was pregnant with her first, her mother made her live in the attic. I am not making this up!! She got no maternity clothes, was not allowed to come to the table with her siblings, and a bunch of things like that.
I know these are extremes. But in my mind the guy on eBay (if he even exists, right! We don't even know for sure) is getting a little closer to some of that than many of us would. It's just way out there, y'know?
I know some people believe spanking works. I don't. But I know they do. I will admit to paddling my child once because he just seemed to be asking for it. I just have had better luck with incentives. Plus various kinds of grounding if need be. One size does not fit all kids when it comes to discipline.
I'm just somebody who happens to believe that kids are the victims of so much cruelty in this world -- all you have to do is pick up a newspaper to do that -- let's not add any more to it than we have to.

I reckon it's a scam.
If you look at Magumbo_2000 history http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...047854&frm=284 the item that they bought immediatley befoer they sold the Nintendo DS is in fact a Nintendo DS http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=8151341584
and yet they say in their descirption that if they don't sell it they are going to return it to the store.
So given that they bought it for $192.50 I seriously hope they did not scam someone into paying $5300 for it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=8157047854 although Golden Palace Casinos could have paid that much for publicity more than anything else, ie so that they are associated with this that got in the press and everything.

eBay
Nix, I think you're right. Certainly sounded a lot to me like the boys from Scan O Rama, the Nigerian 409s or whatever they are. Ugh. Not that I wanted to even look at this site.
Brrrrrr.
