300 would probably do it. I have seen them run on less. Just research it a bit. I wouldn't buy a 15.00 Ebay special.

Well I was leaning more toward the Ebuyer 500w PSU . I know this isnt goin to chuck out 500w, but it'll do at least 350 I should think.
Comments? Reassurance preferably :)

IMO, no way.
1) Its Ebuyer
2) Its cheap
Power supplies are overlooked at, dont forget the power supply is what sets the computer running.
You buy a cheap psu, you get what you pay for, and soon you will buying another. :)
Not only that, PSU can cause fires
hmm...
I'm in denial.
Mine has a 350W... I have an Athlon XP 2600+, 1GB of RAM, 7 fans, two hard drives, two optical drives, and a Geforce 6800. Not braggin'... just making a point. I haven't had any trouble. If I can use a 350W, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to use a 300W.
Thanks for all your help guys and girls, its is really appreciated.
Just as the dilemma of the PSU arrived, without being solved it is now gone.
After some condiration they have decided to wait and save afew more bucks, then get the AMD64.
So it'll be a repeat in a month or so
Thanks to all
Hong
Good choice on the AMD64 though, great CPU!
AMD currently says they will continue to sell Athlon XP and XP-Ms until the second half of 2005 (after that????) What is now the XP line is suppose to "evolve" in to a K8 style processsor.Quote:
they dont make atholons anymore
Hongman,
A note on your PSU selection... Keep in mind it is really the amps available on the different rails and this output relative to your needs that is important, not the total watts of a/the supply. A higher psu rated higher in terms of total watts can often put out less amps on a given rail, even all rales, than a lower rated one. Likewise, two similarly rated psus don't necessarily put out the same.
Yeah I know, when I build it I aint gonna wanna hand it over!!Quote:

Thank you for the explanation. I have already said to them to set aside a good £60 for a decent PSU. I know that maybe they could get away with a cheaper one in the up and coming build but after a lengthy pro's/cons conversation they opted to not take the risk.
Wise desicion.
Thank you all
Hong
;) "Good" is the thing to shoot for with a PSU rather than simply "watts".
I purchased an EBuyer power supply a while ago 600 or 500w [ cant find the invoice] and its purring away with 2 HDs,2 CDRoms etc with no problems and at half the price of an Antec 300w I am pleased with the outcome.Quote:

The only annoying thing on it is the fan leds which light up the room if you leave it running in the dark:D
EDIT: just opened the case its manufactured by a company called Magna and is 600W 17A 12v,38A 5v,28A +3.3 v.Here it is £23.49 + del plenty of molex connectors too which some supplies lack.
Hi 10
Yes, the review on it I read said it was made by Magna. I think he also mentioned that there is a switch for the lights and a control for the fan speed.... but I cant be sure.
This is the one I was going to get, and if you read the review thats where it says Magna.
Are these any good? I might get one for myself soon (if they pass the VDr review of course!)
Hong
Same manufacturer then so I cant see there being any diffrence usage wise.Yes that one seems to inclide a switch for the leds [think i`ll just cut the led leads on mine :D] .Are you gettings a see through case for this as its only the top that clear?
BTW doesnt seem to mention if theres 4 or 6 molex connectors.
Now 10 you do bring up good points that I somehow managed to miss.
For the build mentioned in this thread, it would've been perfect as it has a clear side and top.
But my case has only a clear side...so that PSU wouldnt quite have the same effect!! Doh!
Yeah, same here. I got LEDS flying out my earholes, and sometimes I just wanna turn them all off. Might make my own switch :). But they do look good when I'm showing it off!Quote:
