Sorry it took so long to diagnose what a p.o.s. they must be.I'm surprised anybody stocks them if they are that bad?Quote:

Have a look at the ASUS boards too all the mod cons at a resonable price
I have a new 420 watt Thermaltake psu in my sons pc that works fine. I thought PSU also at 1st. I read some place and I cannot for the life of me remember where, that ECS had like a 1/3 failure rate. PC Chips are not much better. IF this Epox I have in this ever dies I would Seriously consider an Nforce based Gigabyte for my next mainboard. Sorry about your bad luck with this build.
Really did a lot of reading about ECS (I have a ECS in this thiung now) but it's a Pent 3. They are bad boards. Don';t know why. When I called about my RMA they did not even question it. So they must get a lot of returns. But I pay postage back....arh..
I am currently reading up on SOYO (have one that runs great for the last 5 years, ABIT, ASUS and Gigabyte again. At least I have a good PS so I know that is not the problem. I have built at least a dozen systems and this is the 1st time I have had this much trouble. And it is the 1st time I have tried an Athlon XP.
Thanks for all the input, hopefully in a couple of weeks will be running a new board....
i have an ecs .its 850 to 1300 mhz i think
why do people run a board outside a case?
maybe it was touching metal
maybe its a bad board or cpu?
To avoid your second sentence.Quote:

never skimp on the most important component in a computer ... learned this lesson onceQuote:

Lesson learned, don't try and save money buying a cheap board, I will have to pay shipping back for the rma...but. Going out tomorrow and will find a good ASUS or ABIT board.
Thanks for everyone's input.
now i buy asus only (im sure there are plenty of other kick ass mb's but asus has NEVER let me down ... ill pay the xtra 10-20 bucks for the peace of mind)
newegg rocks on there return policy
In the last three years I have built 4 computers with Soyo Dragons , one with a Soyo but can't remember what board it was, five computers with Epox, Three with Gigabyte, Two with Asus, One with an ECS four years ago (two falures with ECS) Ranging from 1700+ to 3200+ AMD cpu's. All are still running.
Have spent several hours researching. I have always used SOYO or ASUS, except for this lst ECS, also have used MSI.
I have a couple of limitations:
My Video Card is AGP 4X so wanted a board that would support both 4X and 8X in case of later upgrade
Wanted one that supports at least 333MHz so could upgrade later
Wanted USB 2.0
Had to stick with the vender I bought from as They are giving me an exchange credit. could of pressed for a refund and would of got it. But anyways.
Settled on the following:
MSI KM4M-L VIA KM400 SCKT A
Good reviews and MSI, like ASUS, Gigabyte, Abit highly recommended and thought of. We will find out...
Ship it! I'll take it :D
By the way, suggest you try the on board sound. I am using mine.
And that BIOS will let you boot to a USB devices, such as floppy, Cdrom, HDD, LS120 or ZIP also.
Anyway, I sure like the MSI KT4AV-L 's I have gotten.
TRAIN
You could of saved me a bunch of headache's telling me to go with MSI to begin with lololol..
Next week hope it is here.
I think I will add a page to "Murf's Garage" on how not to install a motherboard.....
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=475
Has links to such things as your manual.
This is to Mine.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...il.php?UID=456
So you can see the differences.
Excellent Idea!!! ;)Quote:

No No No No ... I already know how not to install a motherboard... I must already know that cause its a default of not knowing how to install a motherboard.....I need to know how, not to not know how, not that I know how already, just that by not knowing doesnt make me know how, just the same as knowing how doesn't mean that I dont know how,Quote:

PS I need to know now that you know that I am not talking about knowing what you all know about not knowing how to install a motherboard but that I need to know now that you all know that I am asking you if you know about knowing how to install a motherboard!!!!
techallenged
Well I know that you know that I know how to do it. So maybe I will do a page on "Do you know, because I know, and a lot of folks don't know, how to install a motherboard?"
