yep, taka it all out, so nortons installs fresh
completely removed norton reinstalled does same thing. wont respond worked fine till i did all the updates
I've got a similar problem too, Norton very slow to open. I'm wondering if it's to do with SP2 and conflict with XP firewall, haven't got time play around now work calls.
Since you are all having problems with NAV 2003, it sounds like its a problem with the program and perhaps the updates. try going through these possible fixes
Just a thought. What versions do you all have? Is it possible that you all have the exact same version?
For all having NAV problems it appears that the most recent LiveUpdate messed up many computers. You can read about it at the link below.

I booted my computer this morning (01/08/04) and suddenly, all seems to be working fine. Norton Anti virus 2003 loaded and the icon appeared in the System Tray. All protection is enabled!
Thanks to Usil for the link. It described my issues completely...especially the first two (Auto Protect and E-mail Scanning).
Apparently “something” went off course yesterday and I do not have any idea as to what. However, I just noticed that my Word 2002 opens ever so slowly.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my post.
Respectfully,

Happy to hear it Creekman!
Well, I am back to square one again. I just rebooted my computer and the Icon for the NAV 2003 did not appear in the System Tray. As well, the program opens ever so slowly.
Word 2002 also opens very slowly. I have no idea now as to what steps I should now take to resolve this issue. I have E-mailed Norton's tech support but this takes several days for a reply and then several more E-mails to explain everything.
None of these issues has ever happened to me before and I have been using a personal computer since March 1999. I have performed a full Scan from Panda Software (http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm) with negative results.
Completely reformatting my computer is something I want to avoid if at all possible, but the failure of Norton Anti Virus to perform correctly and now Word 2002 taking over a minute to open is becoming most annoying.
I am still open to suggestions.

D***, thought we had that one fixed.
My guess is that there will be an official fix from symantec tomorrow. I am out of ideas unfortunately.
When I get home, I will have to deal with NAV 2003 on my system. I think I will disable the live update, although the program did update something last night.
OK guys, here's what I did - I disconnected the network cable so that Norton couldn't access the Internet and restored a Ghost image of Win2000. As soon as that was done NIS was working normally again. Then I plugged the network cable back in and the very second I did that the Live Update killed Norton completely, it took 5 mins to open and the Status showed "Refreshing" on everything. So I think that conclusively proves where the problem is.
Curiously my XP machine has been only marginally affected in that Norton takes a while to open but is OK apart from that.
I don't know what the best course of action is for those of you without Ghost or DXriveImage, a System Restore might do the trick - but make sure that you turn off Live Update first.
And I'm less than impressed with Symantec - why is this Update still on the server? They must know there's a problem by now. I think Norton and I will be parting company before much longer
I have over 100 systems right now with this problem since they all had their "auto-update" feature activated. They always update on Wednesday...so today everyone is having problems.
Excel and Word documents try to access the internet everytime they are opened...firewall blocks it, but there is a 3-5 minute wait for each time you open a file!!
I turned off the Office AV plugin and everything seems to work again. However I'm now loosing that extra protection that I paid for...
The systems all seem to be running a little slower too. Topped off with complaints from users who say this happened at home to them on their personal computers last night too. Symantec really caused some major problems!!

I hear ya SuperSparks. This is a major screw up!
I think I managed to turn the Live Update off before any damage was done, although, it did download some updates yesterday. Which makes me think why it did not happen to me. What could the common denominator be?
I have 2003 Professional v.9.05.15. What about you guys?
Those with problems seem to be running NAV 2003 or NIS 2003. I have NIS 2004 and had no problem with yesterday's Updates.
I'm running NIS 2003, version 9.05.15 too. If Symantec think this is going to make me upgrade they can think again - a test in this months Computer Shopper magazine didn't rate NAV2004 well at all. Where Norton used to be tyhe best of the bunch, it's letting common trojans through these days.
I'm going to get Kaspersky AV Personal Pro, it seems much more effective.
I've been reading about it and it looks good, but a little pricey.
