Whats gone wrong?

OK, if ive done it correct, by keeping the powerconnector in and checking the molex, then they are at 0, whichever one i check.

Now im no electrician but that doesnt look good, right?

So im gonna swap my psu with the another, and see if it still happens.

So i swapped the psu and connected all, and pressed the big button, and turns on, all fans spinning and all lights lit.

i watched it boot up to windows, with no errors or beeps:D

So i guess it was the PSU after all. well better that then the mobo right?:)

That's great, I'm glad you got it sorted :)

Now when you buy a replacement PSU, get a good one. Antec or Enermax are the best IMHO, and worth paying the extra for. Power supplies are a much overlooked component.

I have heard good things about Antec and Enermax, and for the past 20mins ive been having a look around Dealtime and Dabs for them, i was gonna ask whether it was worth paying extra, but youve answered it already.

Im looking to upgrade/build a new pc in the new year so i was thinking of waiting a couple of months, to get a good case and decent PSU.

One thing thats made me think is what could have caused my psu to stop functioning just like that. without symptoms and prior warning?

Cheap power supplies are like that, if you look at that 3rd Tom's Hardware link you'll see what happened to his.

I got this as a replacement for one of my systems from www.pcnextday.co.uk and it seems to be fine.the prices here seem pretty fair and delivery is as advertised next working day .

its a lot quieter than a standard power supply due to the large fan in the base of the unit blowing up through the power supply.
