The true meaning of Christmas well that could be an interesting topic that we don't want to touch.
I'm not religious in anyway yet I still know of the connection of christmas with Jesus etc - however I beliive that their are probably children out there that have no concept of it at all - whether this a bad thing or not I'm not sure ?
We had a letter in our local paper recently from a priest who was saying that the decoration of houses - a la the Griswalds (Chevy Chase) was taking away the true meaning of Christmas and the old guy round the corner who had a simple nativity scene was what people should be doing and going to see.
One response which I thought was interesting stated that decorating houses had nothing to do with Christmas and was a celebration of the most wonderful fairy tale ever, where dreams are made and the world is full of magic, lights, fairys, presents and the sounds of singing and laughter. It then stated "only the Grinch would want to steal that away".
I don't want to get into or start any arguments - but I think the sad thing about Christmas in the 21st century is the fact that it's no longer PC to wish someone Merry Christmas and you have to say Happy Holidays.
Btw one of my Aunts is Mother Superior of a Little Sisters of the Poor convent in Italy so it's not like I have not been exposed to religion - I was given a choice and chose my own path.
Well apart from a Creative Nomad MuVo2 1.5Gb MP3 player I'm getting a Jedi Light Saber.
My 4 year old son said in about April "I'm going to ask Santa for a Jedi Light Saber, but I better start saving some money to send him as I want daddy to have one to so he can play with me".
We told hime they were AUD$50.00 and it would be a lot of money to save but he got some for his birthday in August and he said "you can take some to send to Santa"
I don't know how many 4 year olds would do that but it made my wife and I very proud.
We don't even know where he got the idea that he could send Santa money, let alone request presents for his parents.
If I had the ponies, I'd get myself a gift and share it with the rest of my family.....maybe. LOL....kidding!
Happy Holidays, all!
shotsi:)
Ahhh, Christmas
This time of the year my mood totally changes, im like a big kid when it comes to xmas.
I just love the atmosphere, lights, and the joy.
To carry on the kid thing ive always wanted a proper white christmas, and here in the UK we dont usually get that.
Now there is a downside to christmas and that is shopping, i hate it, the crowds, the long queues, its just a nightmare.
which is why i have not done any christmas shopping yet, i should get a move on really:D
Im not married or have no kids, so i guess thats one problem solved.
To end, I would like to
Wish everyone here at Vdr a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.:):)
and for those that do not celebrate it, then i hope you enjoy the Holidays.:):)

I do apologise but when I posted this thread Calpitors post did not have OT in its title and I hadn't at that time opened it to read what it was all about.
I believed that no OT had been posted.
Mayb you could join the threads together to form one, if that's possible.
TJ
Happiness for everyone.Quote:

Nix, I'm with you! I think Jesus would be too (just my opinion). The lights and celebrations recapture some kind of magic that just makes people feel warm all over. So it's not simple. There's a place for that, I guess. But there's a big place for joy, at least there sure ought to be.
Regarding PC. We had an interesting series of angry reader letters because we referred to the Philadelphia city tree when they had the lighting as a "Holiday Tree." Some people e-mailed to say that they too were tired of PC, why couldn't we call it a Christmas tree? The reply was that that was the city's name, and we had to call it what they did. On the other hand, in other references we would say Christmas tree, because we sure as heck didn't call the city menorah a "Holiday Candelabrum." Ha ha.
Cheers

:D :D :D
Wishing you all a terrific Hanukka and Christmas, and of course anything else that is celebrated at this time of year.
Calpitor, thanks for the special mention! :)
I will be spending this Hanukka/Christmas in London with my Wife. I personally love London at this time of year. I do not celebrate Christmas in any way (of course) but I do appreciate the amazing atmosphere in the days and weeks leading up to Christmas, and the days following (including the sales). Our trip was carefully planned to coincide with Christmas, cause I know that its your best time of year, and in turn, it becomes a good time of year for me too.
Wishing the whole VDR family a great seasons greeting!
