I tried cleartype on my desktop KDS 17" screen and it makes my fonts darker, thicker but slightly blurry or out of focus. But it does help on my Toshiba 15" laptop screen.

Exactly the same as fink describes on my 19" KDS. Darker,bolder,but larger fonts are a' bit blurry. Guess it depends on screen type and resolution perhaps? Tried adjusting size with Ctrl>mouse wheel to smaller,but smaller fonts became almost unreadable...
Did you try going to the page that is linked in one of the posts above, it takes you to a microsoft page where it will give you several different choices and you pick the one you want and it will stay that way Check it out, also it might be under help in XP maybe search for clear type....
Yes I tried that page and the program linked to above as well. None of the results were satisfactory. Not a problem though because I'm quite happy with the way my desktop looks without cleartype. I was just commenting on the difference.
